    Unit still photographer John Platt (Sydney, Australia) has been selected the winner SHOOT's Bi-Annual Behind The Scenes (BTS) Photo Contest - 2017-18 Winter Edition - for his "Hacksaw Ridge" BTS photo.

    The Editors & Publishers of SHOOT Magazine and SHOOTonline.com, the leading publication and website for professional motion picture production & postproduction for movies, TV, Music Videos, Commercials, and Online Videos, are pleased to announce that John Platt is the winner our SHOOT Behind The Scenes Photo Contest – 2017-18 Winter Edition.  John, a unit still photographer in Sydney, Australia, captured third assistant director Joe Popplewell and actors on the second unit set of Hacksaw Ridge awaiting instructions before the next “action” call.  All winning photos shown in gallery above and in the contest winners gallery online here.

    John's winning photo, shot with a Fujifilm X-T2 23mm f1.4 camera and lens, is published on the cover of SHOOT Magazine's May/June New Directors issue as well as being featured inside the issue, on SHOOTonline.com's Homepage, the SHOOT BTS Photo Contest Homepage, and he won a check for $500 USD. The SHOOT BTS Photo Contest – 2017-18 Winter Edition – entry period runs each year during Academy season. This past edition commenced on December 1st, 2017 and ended on March 1, 2018 (the Winter Contest Entry Period). 

    Paul De La Cerda, using a Sony a7s ii with Canon EF Zoom lens, caught Taillight Director TK McKamy in action, using his his Alexa Mini camera with Cooke S4 lenses, on the set of the Granger Smith's music video for Happens Like That.  Paul’s photo was also featured inside the May/June New Directors issue of SHOOT Magazine, on SHOOTonline.com's Homepage, The SHOOT BTS Photo Contest Homepage, and he won $250 USD.

The photo, featuring Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Infinity War, 12 Strong Thor: Ragnarok ), was taken with a Fujifilm X-Pro 2 and 23mm Fujinon Lens just south of Barcelona on the beach in Platja del Trabucador, Spain. 

    • Crew on set of Nekromancer by John Platt  Camera operator Jonno Tyler and dolly grip Troy Pachini on the set of Nekromancer, Fox Studios, Stdney Australia. Shot last year, John used Fujifilm X-T2 23mm f1.4 camera & lens to profile these two crew member characters.

    • Key grip on set of Restock by Tinker Yan On set still from the short film Restock directed by Shelby Dillon. The majority of the crew members were women, according to Tinker. “I’m very glad to see more and more female professionals like key grip Terri Birnbaun (shown in the photo) on set.” said Tinker.

    The SHOOT Behind The Scenes Photo Contest is held bi-annually during Emmy season (summer) and during Academy season (winter). The Contest is FREE to enter and is open to all amateur and professional photographers worldwide. The Summer 2018 contest opens for entries June 1st, 2018 Midnight ET.     About John Platt
    After 30 years working on set in the camera department both in Australia and Canada John Platt has a vast catalogue of behind the scenes images. In 2016 he turned his eye 180 degrees and now shoots those in front of the camera as a Unit Still Photographer based out of Sydney Australia.

    John's three decades in the film industry working within the camera department places him in an unique position as Unit Stills Photographer. He has a thorough knowledge of film set etiquette, is personally known to the vast majority of any crew that he will work with and most importantly for the Stills Photographer who is given little time on set, he has the invaluable asset of their respect. "My aim as Unit Stills Photographer is to to recreate the essence of the story through stills," says John. "Achieving the results with as little disturbance as possible to the actors, crew or the flow of the days work".

    John's photography has been purchased by buyers throughout Australia, the U.S. and Canada. His work has hung in Panavision Australia as well as their head office in Los Angeles. Presently he is preparing his first book, 'Observations' based on his behind the scenes images shot over the last thirty years on set. In Martha Ansara's "The Shadow Catchers" celebrating the history of Cinematography in Australia the number of his images included was second only to that of The Australian Film and Sound Archive.     About Paul De La Cerda
    Paul is a professional Director/Videographer from San Antonio, TX. He has worked with various artists from country artist Granger Smith to Aaron Watson to Kyle Park. He continues to work with musicians from Texas and Nashville creating music videos, documentaries and web content videos. Paul is also a tour videographer.     Anh Vu is a director based in New York City who took her background in design and visual effects to a new level by adding humanity and a visual style that is unique to her. She joined Framestore Pictures in 2016 after starting her career at Psyop as a designer and quickly elevating into Psyop’s director collective. To date, Anh has contributed to several award-winning campaigns for brands like Aetna, Dell, GE, Volkswagen, and Avis. Her most recognized work at Framestore Pictures is a visually stunning film for Buchanan’s Whiskey starring Chris Hemsworth. There is no limit on the number of photos entrants may enter to be considered during the Entry Period, as long as no photo is a duplicate of a previous entry. Images must have been taken no longer ago than 3 years prior to the entry's submission date. People may vote for multiple entries; however only one vote per person will be allowed per entry, per day during the voting period.

    Creativity For Good: The Cre8tors Partners With World Food Program USA On Fill The Silence Campaign

    The "Fill the Silence" campaign shifts the traditional hunger narrative away from images of desperation to stories of resilience, strength, and potential unlocked by food. Featured are the works of The Cre8tors-represented artists Indie 184 (aka Soraya Marquez), known for her graffiti/mixed-media style, and visual artist Brandon Breaux.

    Can art change the way we view hunger and those suffering in places like Gaza and elsewhere? The Cre8tors, the creative talent management and production consulting company led by Dani Jackson and Jenny Lumpkin, think so. That’s why they partnered with World Food Program USA on its Fill the Silence campaign, a bold new national marketing initiative designed to reframe how we think about hunger and galvanize Gen Z and Millennials to act.
