    Boris FX Mocha Pro 2026

The 2026 release introduces advanced matte improvements, smarter 3D solve cleanup, and a fully rebuilt Curve Editor to streamline professional VFX workflows.

    MIAMI -- (SPW) --

Mocha Pro, the Emmy® and Academy Award®-winning planar tracking and masking plugin from Boris FX, announces its 2026 release. The latest update helps VFX artists quickly refine tracking and rotoscoping results with a new AI-assisted matte refine tool for 2D tracking, a 3D tracking refine solve tool, and a rebuilt Curve Editor to easily visualize and adjust problem areas. It also supports VFX Reference Platform 2025 standards to meet the demands of professional VFX pipelines.

“Mocha Pro users told us they loved its new AI-powered masking and camera solver, but wanted to use them on more demanding shots. For our 2026 release, we have created a suite of refinement tools to help artists handle tricky tasks like hair roto or tracking through heavy motion blur,” says John-Paul Smith, CEO, Imagineer Systems. “As always, we added many quality-of-life improvements, including the new Curve Editor, which, for the first time, allows artists to visualise the effect of AdjustTrack interactively.”

“We always look to make laborious tasks a bit easier in Mocha Pro, especially when refining problem areas. This release is focused on making those refinements a breeze,” adds Martin Brennand, Mocha Pro product manager. “Refine your mattes with Matte Refine ML, clean up your 3D solves with the Refine Solve tools, and refine all your data with the Curve Editor.”

    New AI Masking
A new Matte Refine ML workflow further cements Mocha Pro’s dynamic AI masking toolset, which also includes Object Brush ML, Matte Assist ML, and Face ML.

Matte Refine ML automatically refines matte edges to mask out traditionally time-consuming details, such as fine hair, soft blurs, and fast motion blur. Users can easily group multiple layers and refine them into a single matte, reducing render time and making it easier to control mattes in render operations.

The one-two combination of Matte Assist ML and the new Matte Refine ML tool offers an even speedier, streamlined workflow for roto, compositing, and cleanup, pairing auto-masks with auto-refinements.

    Better 3D Solves
Artists tasked with 3D tracking shots now have access to a new Refine Solve tool in Mocha Pro for faster cleanup. The simplified, flexible workflow allows users to fix bad frames and smooth problem areas without redoing an entire solve. Erratic or unwanted 3D features can be quickly deleted to keep scenes stable, resulting in more accurate foundations for 3D integrations. Once solved, Refine Solve data can be exported directly into SynthEyes if a shot requires advanced cleanup and finishing.

    Smoother Workflows
The Curve Editor allows artists to visualize potential problems in a track, roto, or camera solve, then adjust the values directly on the curve to better match reality. It is especially useful in areas where a track may have shifted suddenly due to an occlusion or going off-screen.

The Curve Editor has a completely rebuilt core, a new interface, and better integration with the animation Dope Sheet. It also introduces the ability to edit 3D camera curve data to smooth out any problem areas, delivering cleaner results. Artists can toggle between the Dope Sheet and Curve Editor using a new Graphs panel, where they can easily adjust any visible parameter value.

Additionally, the 2026 release conforms to VFX Reference Platform 2025 standards, minimizing potential incompatibilities across professional pipelines. The update includes support for Qt 6.5.4 with PySide 6, Python 3.11, OpenEXR 3.4.5, Alembic 1.8.8, and FBX 2020.3.7. View product page.
