Dimenco, an international pioneer in display technologies, will join with strategic partner Ultrahaptics, the world’s leading mid-air haptics company, in presenting their concept for a first-of-its kind Simulated Reality (SR) system at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) May 30 – June 1 at the Santa Clara (California) Convention Center.

The demonstration will showcase emerging technologies that will enable a virtual reality-like experience without glasses, hand-held devices or other wearable gear. SR will combine 3D audio and visual simulations with sensory stimuli, including touch, that will allow users to interact with simulated objects just as they do with their real-world counterparts. Dimenco and Ultrahaptics will demonstrate SR at booth 934 on the show floor.

“At Dimenco, we believe in a future without limits, where our senses and physical location aren’t the boundary, but the starting point,” says Dimenco CEO Maarten Tobias. “Together with the brightest minds in our industry, we are developing technology to create a new experience, one that brings people together no matter where they are. We call it Simulated Reality.”

Dimenco plans to release a limited number of Simulated Reality development kits in the first quarter of 2019. It is currently developing platform and system architecture that will enable third parties to similarly develop SR applications and software. It also plans soon to launch plugins for Unreal and Unity. Dimenco expects its first integrated Simulated Reality products by the end of 2019.

Dimenco is at the forefront of making multi-sensory immersive experiences, like those pictured in such films as Blade Runner and Ready Player One, a reality. Simulated Reality is the next logical step beyond virtual reality and augmented reality. It will allow people to see, hear and interact with computer-simulated objects, environments and characters, without glasses or wearables.

“The technology promises to redefine the very concept of ‘experience,’” notes Tobias. “Time, location, capabilities and even budget will no longer limit what you can experience.”
