Filmworkers Sinks Its Teeth into McDonald’s Olympics Campaign

Filmworkers provided post production services for McDonald's Olympics campaign "Bite."

DDB’s “Bite” campaign links athletes’ hunger for the Gold with consumers love for McDonald’s McNuggets.

    CHICAGO -- (SPW) --

Filmworkers provided post services for a new Olympics-themed campaign from McDonald’s and DDB, Chicago, that has plenty of “bite.” The new spots connect the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with the McDonald’s brand by showing medal-winning performances from past games, and consumers watching at home while enjoying McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets. Each spot ends with a shot juxtaposing the winning athlete, celebrating victory by biting a medal, with a consumer, who is also celebrating by biting a McNugget. U.S. snowboarder Louie Vito, ice hockey player Patrick Kane and speed skater Shani Davis are among those featured in the ads.

Filmworkers’s role was to help give each spot a seamless quality through color-balancing and visual effects. That work was especially challenging for the 60-second spot Celebrate with a Bite as it opens with a fast-paced montage of Olympics footage spanning more than five decades. “We had black & white footage, color film from the 60s and 70s and video from the 80s, as well as the new material,” recalls Filmworkers colorist Fred Keller. “When it’s all played together, it looks spectacular”

Keller balanced the color using a Baselight EIGHT system. Filmworkers Visual Effects Director Rob Churchill used visual effects tools to further adjust for variations in grain and other visual textures.

Filmworkers affiliate Vitamin created the campaign’s end tag animation pairing the McDonald’s Golden Arches logo and the Olympics’ familiar five interlocking rings.

Filmworkers is located at 232 E. Ohio St. Penthouse, Chicago, IL 60611. For more information, call (312) 664-9333 or visit www.filmworkers.com.

Boris FX Mocha Pro Adds Powerful New AI Roto, Matte, and 3D Solve Refinement Tools

    Boris FX Mocha Pro 2026

Mocha Pro, the Emmy® and Academy Award®-winning planar tracking and masking plugin from Boris FX, announces its 2026 release. The latest update helps VFX artists quickly refine tracking and rotoscoping results with a new AI-assisted matte refine tool for 2D tracking, a 3D tracking refine solve tool, and a rebuilt Curve Editor to easily visualize and adjust problem areas. It also supports VFX Reference Platform 2025 standards to meet the demands of professional VFX pipelines. “Mocha Pro users told us they loved its new AI-powered masking and camera solver, but wanted to use them on more demanding shots. For our 2026 release, we have created a suite of refinement tools to help artists handle tricky tasks like hair roto or tracking through heavy motion blur,” says John-Paul Smith, CEO, Imagineer Systems. “As always, we added many quality-of-life improvements, including the new Curve Editor, which, for the first time, allows artists to visualise the effect of AdjustTrack interactively.” “We always look to make laborious tasks a bit easier in Mocha Pro, especially when refining problem areas. This release is focused on making those refinements a breeze,” adds Martin Brennand, Mocha Pro product manager. “Refine your mattes with Matte Refine ML, clean up your 3D solves with the Refine Solve tools, and refine all your data with the Curve Editor.” New AI Masking A new Matte Refine ML workflow further cements Mocha Pro’s dynamic AI masking toolset, which also includes Object Brush ML, Matte Assist ML, and Face ML. Matte Refine ML automatically refines matte edges to mask out traditionally time-consuming details, such as fine hair, soft blurs,... Read More
