Tribeca favorite "For the Love of Spock," directed by Adam Nimoy, was colored at Incendio by Santiago Padilla.

Adam Nimoy’s feature premiered at Tribeca Film Festival

    Venice, CA -- (SPW) --

Among the recent work colored at Incendio by Santiago Padilla is Adam Nimoy’s new documentary For the Love of Spock, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month. Produced by Joseph Kornbrodt, Kevin Layne, and David Zappone, the film covers Leonard Nimoy's career, particularly his seminal role as Star Trek’s Mr. Spock. It also is an immersion into the actor’s personal life and relationship with his son, Adam, who began the project in collaboration with his father and completed the film after the elder Nimoy’s passing last year. At the fest, For the Love of Spock inspired glowing reviews, with The Hollywood Reporter labeling it “Essential viewing for fans” and Popoptik.com observing that “The doc has a similar vibe to Star Trek. It’s fun, campy, entertaining, a little deliciously over the top and also intelligent, thought provoking, artful, and even-handed. An aptly titled documentary that truly delivers.”

A true chronology of Nimoy’s long and varied life and career, For the Love of Spock presented Padilla with significant challenges. “Santi did a great job blending a vast amount of archival material with our interview footage giving the film a bold and cohesive look,” director Adam Nimoy said. “It was a pleasure working with Santi and Incendio on our film.”

“I found Adam to be a very decisive director,” Padilla observed. “He knew what he liked, his vision was clear, yet he let me do me.” Padilla described the film as “very modern, and equally appealing to a young audience and to longtime fans. Some of the actors appearing in clips also appear in new interviews, and through our beauty work we wanted to do justice to the iconic show and its participants.”

While this was his first time working with Nimoy, Padilla collaborated previously with producer Joseph Kornbrodt during the colorist’s tenure at Picture Head. It was Kornbrodt who brought For the Love of Spock to Incendio. “Having worked with Santi many times over the years, I knew I wanted him for this project,” said Kornbrodt. “He met and exceeded my expectations,  as did everyone at Incendio."

Padilla said the mutual support of the production and postproduction teams made possible a tight three-work turnaround in post. “Working with a very technically proficient production team set us up for success,” Padilla noted. “On our end, there was management of every file and format imaginable. I’m supported by an amazing team at Incendio, where handling 4K real time is routine and all the tools in the Nucoda can be brought to bear.”

In addition to For the Love of Spock, Padilla recently completed work on the 360 VR film Safe Schools: Nepal, from The Uprising Creative/VehicleVR’s Jonathan Craven and Jeff Nicholas. Released one year after the tragic earthquake that hit Nepal in April 2015, the film focuses on the education emergency faced by a generation of children in Nepal.

Padilla also colored Samuel Gonzalez Jr’s coming-of-age period war drama Railway Spine, which tells the story of redemption and hope through the eyes of an old Vietnam veteran suffering from severe PTSD.
