    Nominations for the 21st Annual International Press Academy Satellite Awards

    The Satellite Award Statuette: Ante Marinovic, world renowned sculptor and designer of the Satellite Statue, was born on the island of Korcula in a Mediterranean fishing town called Vale Luka, Croatia. He graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Split, Croatia. He also completed advanced courses for his degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Serbia.
    LOS ANGELES -- (SPW) --
    The International Press Academy (IPA) announces its nominations for the 21st Annual Satellite™ Awards and for the first time the IPA is awarding a separate independent film and major studio film as Best Picture. Each year, the IPA celebrates nominees from domestic and international submissions for 37 categories: 19 in Motion Pictures, 12 in Television, 2 in Blu-ray DVDs and 4 in Video Games.
     
    Film critics and entertainment writers from throughout the world are members of the IPA, and its decisions are derived from domestic and international film festivals, guild screenings and press screenings.
     
    This year's nominees include diverse films such as Fences, La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea and Hell and High Water. On the TV side, major nominees include The People v. O.J. Simpson and Game of Thrones.
     
    The special achievement awards include;
    • The Mary Pickford Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to the Entertainment Industry goes this year to Edward James Olmos
    • TheNikola Tesla Award for visionary achievements in filmmaking technology goes to John Toll
    • The Auteur Award for creative vision and unique artistry made on audiences and fellow artists alike goes to Tom Ford
    • The Humanitarian Award recipient is actor/activist Patrick Stewart.
    • The Best First Feature Award goes to Russudan Glurjidze for House of Others.
    • The Best Ensemble for Motion Pictures goes to Hidden Figures and the Best Ensemble for Television goes to Outlander.

    We sat down with designer, art director, and creative technologist Charmaine Regina as she outlined her creative approach for us. She walks us through how she's shifted the focus away from technicalities and instead uses design as a way to build relationships between people and brands. Her design skills go beyond traditional boundaries as she works across branding, motion, and code, treating brand identity as something dynamic. She discusses how her approach is grounded in experimentation, and outlines her deep sense of responsibility for how design influences perception, agency, and experience in an increasingly interactive world. When a project involves branding, motion, and code, where does your process begin, and why? I start with the interaction, not the motion. I’m less interested in animation as spectacle and more interested in motion as a consequence of behavior. I ask: What triggers movement? What does the user do? What does the system respond to? Where does friction, resistance, or flow live? For me, motion isn’t decoration — it’s feedback. It’s how a system speaks back. So the process begins by designing the relationship between a person and a system. Once that relationship is defined, motion emerges naturally as its expression.
