(L to R) Alex Hartley, Max Berger, and Ben Baker.

Free video conference slated for Thursday, Mach 3 at 4:00pm EST

    NEW YORK -- (SPW) --

The next edition of Post Break, the free webinar series from Post New York Alliance (PNYA) will feature the first in a series of three in-depth conversations about the role of assistant editors and their responsibilities and workflow during the turnover process to finish a film or episode. Nice Shoes DI Finishing Artist Alex Hartley and freelance Assistant Editor Max Berger will talk with moderator Ben Baker, Partner at Next Gen Production, about the interaction between assistant editors and conform editors in the finishing process. The session is slated for Thursday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m. EST. Registration is available here.

Hartley and Berger will offer advice on how to organize projects and manage turnover in a manner best suited to individual productions. They will describe what, how and when to deliver media to a digital intermediate post-production house for finishing. They will also provide guidance on how to ensure everything on an edit timeline transfers directly to the colorist’s timeline. If you are an assistant editor, or aspire to work in a New York editorial department on television or feature projects, this session will tell you everything you need to know to nail this crucial part of the editorial process.

    Guest Speakers:

    • Alex Hartley is a DI finishing artist in the film and episodic team at Nice Shoes, a multifaceted creative studio and post-production company with offices across the United States and Canada. He specializes in online conform, color pipeline management and other finishing methodologies used in narrative and documentary projects produced for streaming and theatrical deliveries. His recent credits include The Lost Daughter, The Year of the Everlasting Storm, Couples Therapy, and Sirens.
    • Max Berger is a freelance film editor, and has served as an assistant editor on several theatrically-released motion pictures. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 2010 and has been a member of The Motion Pictures Editors Guild since 2017. Berger is currently working as the 1st AE on Ari Aster's film Disappointment Blvd.

    Moderator:

    • Ben Baker has more than 22 years of experience in VFX and post-production in Australia, the UK and, for the last 12 years, the United States. He has experience as a post producer, onset supervisor, and head of department at Framestore, London, and as a VP at Vice and at HBO. Aways working at the bleeding-edge production technology (with the scars to prove it), he is also a board member of Post New York Alliance.

For the last 18 months, Baker has focused on virtual production, finishing the Epic Games Unreal Fellowship in March 2021, consulting for studios, networks and construction clients through Next Gen Production. He is currently serving as Executive Producer of the Entertainment Technology Center@USC’s latest R&D short, FATHEAD, in production on a volume stage in LA.

    • When:  Thursday, March 3, 2021, 4:00pm EST
    • Title:  Turnover to Picture, Part 1

Boris FX Continuum, the acclaimed visual effects plugin collection, introduces its 2026.5 release. The latest version of the Emmy Award-winning software delivers a new AI deinterlace tool, four updated AI models, a new compositing workflow in the FX Editor, overhauled warp and displacement effects, upgraded wipe transitions, and greater creative control in Particle Illusion. “As we continue to leverage internal AI technology to build new tools, we always keep the needs of Continuum’s editors, artists, and content creators at the forefront,” states Boris Yamnitsky, CEO and Founder of Boris FX. “We carefully choose which types of tasks benefit from AI workflows, such as image restoration and masking.
