Rising Sun Pictures (RSP), and the University of South Australia have forged a unique strategic partnership designed to keep the Australian visual effects industry growing strong.
Adelaide, South Australia -- (SPW) --

Adelaide’s own Hollywood success story, Rising Sun Pictures (RSP), and the University of South Australia have forged a unique strategic partnership designed to keep the Australian visual effects industry growing strong.

Rising Sun Pictures’ Managing Director and Co-Founder, Wayne Lewis, says the new association will provide undergraduate student placements and mentoring opportunities with the award-winning visual effects production company, as well as a co-delivered Graduate Certificate in Visual Effects.

Founded in 1995, RSP is a great South Australian success story – a “can-do” group of professionals who have gone on to build a company providing visual effects for blockbuster franchises such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, X-Men and The Hunger Games.

“With its focus on quality, industry-based learning with real employment outcomes, a partnership with UniSA is a natural fit for us,” Lewis says.

“The new Graduate Certificate in Visual Effects is an intensive 12-week program teaching students vital skills in visual effects (VFX) production and preparing them for careers in the entertainment industry.

“Students of the program will gain insights into the VFX industry like no other and graduate with the extra skills to take them into careers here at RSP and at other effects facilities around the world.”

UniSA Vice Chancellor, Professor David Lloyd, says the new partnership is just the sort of engagement UniSA aims to be a part of – a partnership that champions local innovation and creativity and nurtures local talent.

“Businesses such as RSP prove that you don’t have to be in Hollywood, or even in Sydney, to make your mark internationally – Adelaide has all the ingredients required,” he says.

“This is just the first step in an ongoing relationship between UniSA and RSP and I’m excited for our students, who will get the chance to work alongside true industry leaders, developing a skills set that will be much in demand by film and digital production employers globally.”

Celebrating the new partnership with RSP, on November 26th, UniSA will host a visual effects industry night in the Hartley Playhouse at its Magill campus.

The evening will showcase three of Australia's biggest visual effects companies – Rising Sun Pictures, Animal Logic and Iloura; as well as major international studio Framestore, and provide a rare opportunity for current and future students to learn about what it takes to break into the visual effects industry.

This is a free but ticketed event from 6pm to 9.30 pm.  Secure your tickets at www.vfxindustrynight.eventbrite.com.au

About the Graduate Certificate in Visual Effects
The training program will be delivered in RSP’s premises by RSP staff and in 2016 will have three intakes beginning in January, April and September.

It includes training in Nuke, 3DEqualizer, Maya, Shotgun and other industry-standard tools, as well as job-seeking and career advice from experienced recruiters. Students will develop practical skills while working in a simulated production environment.

Graduates who have completed a bachelor degree or acceptable advanced diplomas are eligible to apply.

Leading West Coast Rep Firm Unveils One of Ones, Expands Team and Talent Offering

    Monday, December 8, 2025
One of Ones - Ezra Burke & Sylvia Brach

With decades of experience working across multiple facets of filmmaking and talent management, Ezra Burke has arrived at one universal truth: it’s human creativity that makes a film unforgettable. And as a pledge to the entire community of filmmakers everywhere, West Coast Rep firm Content Chemics becomes One of Ones. The re-brand for the long-standing firm has been a year in the making, sparked by the addition of Sales Rep Sylvia Brach. “When Sylvia and I first met we spent hours sharing stories of our journeys and what inspired us. Our paths into advertising were very different; mine via the feature film world while Sylvia’s came via the agency side. But what we shared was a passionate commitment to working with people who bring out the best in us.” Energized by this commitment to the creative community, One of Ones have expanded their roster with the addition of four new companies over the past year. Earlier this year Ezra and team re-united with SKUNK founder Matt Factor and director John Hillcoat, followed by the signing of Field Day Sound, the 2025 AdAge Music & Sound Company of the Year. Premiere VFX studio Selected Works joined the roster over the summer. And most recently Ezra and Sylvia have brought on Group Thrpy, the production company founded by Shelby Ross and director Harrison Boyce. www.oneofones.com Read More
