As is the tradition, we’re keeping company affiliations and selected work under wraps until the October 26th NDS Event.  We can tell you that this year’s NDS Class of 2023 is a fantastically diverse group of directors with backgrounds that include acting, editing, photography, production designing, live theater, serving in agency creative and account capacities. The mix of talent includes recent film school grads as well as those with a filmmaking lineage, namely a parent or parents who are notable directors in their own right. Our ‘23 Class consists of 17 female (including one duo), 16 male (including one duo) and two nonbinary directors.  A total of 20 directors (16 individuals and a pair of duos) have production company affiliations, and 15 are currently unaffiliated.

Each year the mix of work on the SHOOT New Directors Showcase Reel is a reflection of the industry at large–as is SHOOT itself as exemplified in our multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary, multi-platform coverage, including our regular reporting on feature, TV and commercial directors residing side by side in our lineup of stories and features. As embodied in our coverage and underscoring the relevance of our NDS competition and event, SHOOT’s mission is to connect the worlds of advertising and entertainment while also bringing content creators together with the collaborators who can hire them. At midnight after the NDS Event, The SHOOT’s New Directors Showcase website will go live where the industry will be able to view the NDS Reel along with individual profile pages on each director with headshot, video of selected work, additional Q&As, and contact information.  And, SHOOT’s October/November Issue will be published in both Print & PDF Issues with mini-profiles of all the directors in this year’s NDS Showcase.

In addition to announcing the directors selected for this year's Showcase, SHOOT is also pleased to announce our NDS Event Sponsors and Supporters:

Sound Lounge Welcomes Mixer and Sound Designer Nicole Pettigrew

    Tuesday, August 18, 2026
Mixer and Sound Designer Nicole Pettigrew

Sound Lounge has expanded its commercial roster with the addition of mixer and sound designer Nicole Pettigrew, who brings more than a decade of experience, a passion for sound design and a highly collaborative approach to her work. Pettigrew joins Sound Lounge following five years at PS260, where she established and led the company's in-house audio department as its sole audio engineer. Her work spans campaigns for brands including American Express, MLB, T-Mobile, New Balance, Titleist, David Yurman and DraftKings. She also mixed Gucci's 2024 AICP Best in Show-winning campaign. Prior to PS260, Pettigrew spent nine years at PLUSHnyc. A lifelong musician, Pettigrew brings a musical ear to her work and particularly gravitates toward projects that allow her to experiment with sound. Her approach pairs a traditional studio foundation rooted in listening, communication and client experience with an eagerness to explore new ideas and push the creative possibilities of a project. “The best sessions feel like a real collaboration,” says Pettigrew. “I want clients to feel like I’m part of their team, listening to their vision and then interpreting it, building on it and helping push the idea further. You’re handed all of these individual pieces, and I love the problem-solving that goes into figuring out how they fit together. There’s something really satisfying about getting to the end, stepping back and realizing you helped bring someone’s idea fully to life.” Pettigrew's arrival also reunites her with Sound Lounge...
