Make your business calls in the morning, then unplug and join us from 3:00-11:00PM ET. Spend the afternoon and evening listening to a cross-section of speakers who are commercial & entertainment production executives, leading directors and up-and-coming directors.  Creative and Production executives from Agencies, Brands, Production and Post companies, Movie Studios, TV, Cable and Online Networks are welcome to attend at no charge as are directors, cinematographers, editors and other production/post industry artisans.   The daytime agenda will include provocative & entertaining speakers providing insights into great work that crosses advertising and entertainment.  During the evening New Directors Showcase agenda, you'll get a look-see at and meet some of the best up-and-coming directors who based on their initial work show promise to make positive contributions to advertising and/or entertainment in its traditional and hybrid forms. Having your finger on the talent pulse of the business is a perennial must to stay plugged into the present and future of our industry. Following the Showcase Screening, we'll hear from several of them about work to date and plans for gaining exposure in the marketplace --along with critiques/observations from several industry pros. And, the after-party hosted by event Silver Sponsor, The-Artery, at their fabulous new space in Chelsa affords attendees the opportunity to meet many of the new directors, mingle with industry friends and meet potential collaborators and clients.

Here's a look at the Agenda...

  • 3:00PM-3:25PM Check in: be sure to arrive early, we will start on time & you won’t want to miss the first session!
  • 3:30PM Welcome
  • 3:35-4:25PM In the Directors Chair: On-Stage interview with Matthew Heineman
Matthew Heineman, a two-time DGA Award winner as a documentarian for “Cartel Land” (also nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar) and “City of Ghosts,” made his narrative feature debut with last year’s “A Private War.”

"A Private War” stars Rosamund Pike as Marie Colvin, one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time, an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontline of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless.  Back in January, “A Private War” earned Heineman a DGA Award nod for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director. Heineman thus joined Martin Scorsese as the only directors ever to be nominated for both narrative and documentary DGA Awards.

"Cartel Land," which explores vigilantes taking on the Mexican drug cartels, also earned three Primetime Emmy Awards. And "City of Ghosts" follows a group of citizen-journalists exposing the horrors of ISIS.

Heineman will discuss his filmmaking career, and his Showtime docuseries “The Trade" which chronicles the opioid crisis through the eyes of those most affected--growers, cartel members, users and law enforcement. It was honored by the International Documentary Association as the Best Episodic Series of 2018. Heineman is  also handled for commercialmaking via production house Superprime.

  • 4:30-5:30PM        Panel Discussion: Living on the Cutting Edge Of Content
As lines continue to blur between advertising and entertainment, the opportunity to create cutting-edge content has grown exponentially. This discussion features panelists who live on that edge, exploring, meshing and realizing hybrid forms that span different genres, platforms, narrative filmmaking, documentary, music, live action, VR and other varied disciplines.

Panelists:

Deb Archambault, Executive Producer, McCann NY will discuss Universal Love, the lauded MGM Resorts-sponsored collection of reimagined wedding songs for the LGBTQ community--and the breakthrough work it spawned, including a poignant March for Our Lives music video.

David Cullipher, Creative Technologist, The Devil You Know, will share insights into experiential fare, including a multiple Cannes Lions-honored piece which shows the value of inclusion and diversity.

Jeffrey A. Greenbaum, Managing Partner, Frankfurt Kurnit Klein + Selz will address legal issues relative to projects that cross the advertising and entertainment worlds.

John McKelvey, co-founder/executive creative director of JohnXHannes (JXH), provides backstory on Montefiore Hospital's "Corazon," the film that won assorted honors, including the Cannes Lions Health & Wellness Grand Prix as well as a Cannes Entertainment Gold Lion.

David Rolfe, EVP, Director of Integrated Production, BBDO NY, will define the agency’s “5C’s” of production, a sourcing model for the different means of bringing content to fruition.

Vico Sharabani, founder/CD/director, The-Artery, whose work spans feature films, episodic TV, and branded content, will discuss how his studio merges creativity and tech for clients by leveraging multiple mediums including VR, 360 degree live-action videography, and experiential design.
