As is the tradition, we're keeping company affiliations and selected work under wraps until the Novemeber 17th NDS Event.  We can tell you that this year's NDS Class of 2022 is a fantastically diverse group of directors with backgrounds that include recent film school grads, agency creatives, photographers, actors, writers, an assistant director, an athlete who broke in with surf and skiing films, producers and live theater artisans. Our ‘22 Class consists of 18 male and 15 female directors; there is one directing duo. 22 of the directors have production company affiliations and 11 are currently unaffiliated. Each year the mix of work on the SHOOT New Directors Showcase Reel is a reflection of the industry at large–as is SHOOT itself as exemplified in our multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary, multi-platform coverage, including our regular reporting on feature, TV and commercial directors residing side by side in our lineup of stories and features. As embodied in our coverage and underscoring the relevance of our NDS competition and event, SHOOT's mission is to connect the worlds of advertising and entertainment while also bringing content creators together with the collaborators who can hire them. At midnight on November 18th, SHOOT's New Directors Showcase website will go live where the industry will be able to view the NDS Reel along with individual profile pages on each director with headshot, video of selected work, additional Q&As, and contact information.  And, SHOOT's Nov/Dec Issue will be published in both Print & PDF Issues with mini-profiles of all the directors in this year's NDS Showcase.

Boris FX Continuum Adds Four Dynamic New AI VFX Tools

    Thursday, May 22, 2025
Boris FX Continuum 2025.5 with new AI Tools

Continuum, the original flagship plugin collection from Boris FX, accelerates its mission to create AI tools that benefit post-production professionals and content creators. The 2025.5 release gives artists access to fast masking, instant depth map creation, easy frame fixes, and more. “This year marks the 30th anniversary of Continuum’s first product release. From its inception as the first plugin available to emerging NLEs to the present day, our team has continually developed innovative visual effects tools and effects used by video editors and VFX artists across every content genre,” states Boris Yamnitsky, President and Founder of Boris FX. “As AI technology plays a larger role in everyone’s lives, we’re excited to keep Continuum at the forefront with four new plugins that enhance creative workflows, slashing the time spent on everyday technical tasks.” AI Technology Continuum 2025.5 adds two AI-driven masking and tracking tools. The new workflow transforms the traditionally time-consuming effects isolation process. It’s never been easier to isolate effects such as lights, glows, color grades, film stocks, and particles directly inside Continuum.

    • Object Brush ML offers one-click masking that automatically generates splines that can be seamlessly tracked across frames using Mocha.
    • Matte Assist ML generates a complete animated matte from one frame, delivering precise segmented masking.
“I've been using Continuum’s Matte Assist ML feature since its first beta. It is nothing less than magic! In the past, I've spent tedious... Read More
