SAM created sonic branding for the new news show "Sunrise on the Hill"
    DALLAS -- (SPW) --

In its latest collaboration with Nexstar Media Group, Inc., Stephen Arnold Music (SAM), The World Leader in Sonic Branding®, created custom sonic branding for Sunrise on The Hill, the new two-hour morning program on DC News Now. SAM’s work includes a complete music and sound design package featuring an original theme that establishes a unique identity for the show and underscores its dynamic approach to news coverage.

Sunrise on The Hill provides residents of the nation’s capital with a new way to start their day by connecting local news, political affairs, and current events with communities across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV). Hosted by Hillary Howard and Cory Smith, the program draws on the combined resources of The Hill, NewsNation, DC News Now, and Nexstar’s Washington, D.C. Bureau to deliver timely political news and local perspectives.

The sonic branding developed by SAM is anchored in a three-note mnemonic that is instantly memorable and distinct. Pulsating guitars, bold percussion, and carefully layered custom sound design elements reflect the energy of Washington, D.C. and the urgency of the political beat. The package also supports on-air visuals in the main title and other show elements, incorporating imagery of iconic Washington landmarks to reinforce a cohesive brand experience.

“The sonic branding gives Sunrise on The Hill a distinct identity that matches the energy of the show and the pace at which news happens in D.C.,” says SAM President and Creative Director Chad Cook. “It’s bold, energetic, and tailored to support the visuals while establishing a memorable and authentic sound.”

For three decades, The Hill has been an institution in Washington, D.C., serving as the go-to source for news from Congress and the White House, in-depth policy reporting, and thoughtful analysis. That editorial strength combined with local news coverage from DC News Now fuels Sunrise on The Hill, delivering a fresh, informed, and uniquely local perspective on national politics.

Stephen Arnold Music Creates “The World Is Here” For Fox Television Stations’ FIFA World Cup Coverage

Stephen Arnold Music Creates "The World Is Here" for Fox Television Stations' FIFA World Cup Coverage

Stephen Arnold Music (SAM), the world leader in sonic branding, created a dynamic, soccer-themed anthem dubbed The World Is Here for Fox Television Stations (FTS) in support of coverage of FIFA World Cup on its stations nationwide. SAM worked under the supervision of FTS VP/Creative Services John Kukla. The anthem was used in promos and program graphics localized for each of FTS’s 29 stations, including those in Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles. The promos incorporate footage of local landmarks, regional soccer clubs and community watch parties, and route viewers to station apps and the FOX LOCAL app for localized streaming and event coverage. The promos were created by Robert Ayson and Chris Ivey of KDFW-TV (Fox 4). "The World Is Here not only captures the spirit of World Cup matches broadcast on the Fox Network, it also inspires pride in viewers for their cities as hosts of an incredible event and visitors from around the world,” says Chad Cook, SAM's president and creative director. The anthem is a high-energy, cinematic composition built on driving percussion, electronic dance rhythms and brass stings that echo the atmosphere of a live match. It also integrates vocal elements including the familiar soccer cheer "Ole, Ole, Ole." SAM produced customized versions of the anthem for each urban market, drawing on Latin pop, Afrobeat and other genres to reflect each city’s unique culture and heritage. "The piece is built on a foundation of bold percussion and vocal chants, with an eclectic blend of international instruments: mallets, synths and strings," says Cook. He added that the anthem also features updated motifs drawn from FTS’s established sonic branding, also produced by SAM. Along with the full anthem, SAM delivered a... Read More
