    Television Competition Entry Deadline Approaching for ASC Awards

    The ASC Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography salute stellar work in theatrical features, television projects and student films, and also honor select cinematographers and other filmmakers for their career achievements. The awards were created in 1986 by ASC members Michael Margulies and Woody Omens, and at the inaugural ceremony, held at the Clubhouse, just one award was given: to Jordan Cronenweth, ASC, for the theatrical release "Peggy Sue Got Married." Today, ASC Awards are bestowed on cinematographers in several competitive categories, and the black-tie ceremony attracts more than a thousand people from around the world — filmmakers, friends, sponsors and other honored guests.

    The deadline to submit entries for consideration in the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) annual television competition is November 2 by noon (PST). The two award categories are (1) Television Movie, Miniseries or Pilot, and (2) an Episode of a Regular Series. Nominees will be named in November, and winners announced at the awards gala on February 14, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Century City.

    To qualify for the ASC TV awards, shows must have a premiere broadcast date in the United States between November 1, 2014, and October 31, 2015. Entry forms can be downloaded from the ASC website.

    Last year’s winners were Jonathan Freeman, ASC for the “Golden Days for Boys and Girls” episode of BOARDWALK EMPIRE, and John Lindley, ASC for the for the MANHATTAN pilot.

    Chartered in January of 1919, the ASC is defined by their reputation of excellence in advancing the art of visual storytelling. Currently, the ASC has more than 360 active members and 200-plus associate members, all from various sectors of the industry that support the skilled art and craft of filmmaking. Butzer brings a highly versatile editorial voice shaped by over 15 years of experience spanning commercials, music videos, documentaries, and more. Known for his unique ability to move fluidly between genres, blending visual storytelling with experimental approaches, he has delivered standout work for Google, Frito-Lay, Apple, TurboTax, Toyota, Vince Staples, and more.

    Butzer is celebrated for his creative freedom and instinct for shaping narratives through unconventional frameworks. His work has been recognized with AICP awards for Vince Staples’ “Fun!” music video and Frito-Lay's “Taste of Soccer,” while his edit for Google’s “Year in Search” earned multiple Webby Awards among others and has garnered over 250 million views worldwide.

    At Abandon, Butzer is reunited with Edward Khoma, Editor and Co-Founder, who previously worked alongside Scott, as well as EP Joanna Hall.
