"24" Writer/Producer Joel Surnow, Director Brendan Gibbons Team On Satirical Short Film Series Promoting Gun Safety
Following the Parkland massacre last February, President Trump suggested that schools should arm educators--the people we have trusted to teach and care for our children every day.
To combat this notion and a general aversion to gun control on the part of many elected officials, award-winning writer/producer Joel Surnow (24) has teamed with psychologist Dr. Frank Sergi, director Brendan Gibbons, production company Station Film and composer Sean Callery to create a satirical gun safety short film series, “Stop the Madness.”
The short films, which include this ScreenWork piece, “Hallway,” use absurdity to address the situation while carrying a call to action, urging viewers to “Vote ‘Em Out,” a reference to those politicians running for office in November who seek to prevent any limits on the distribution and use of guns.
In “Hallway,” we see teachers emboldened by their possession of firearms, using them as a means to set misbehaving kids straight.
JJ Lask of PS260 edited the “Stop the Madness” shorts.
