Production company now handles director on both sides of the Atlantic
Chelsea Pictures, which handles director and photographic artist Nadav Kander in the U.S. market, has expanded that reach to now also cover representation in the U.K.
“We are delighted to be adding Nadav to the U.K. roster,” said Chelsea U.K. EP, Nell Jordan, “He possesses the aptitude to convey immense beauty in the mundane which has culminated in many awards including an Honorary Fellowship of The Royal Photographer’s Society, a Prix Pictet award, multiple Cannes Lions and numerous D&AD pencils.”
Kander has long been regarded for his portraits, including: Barack Obama, King Charles III, Jane Goodall, Bill Gates, Desmond Tutu, Hilary Clinton, David Lynch, MIA, Florence Welch, Brad Pitt, and Nick Cave.
“I am honored to be repping Nadav. His photography is so recognizable and hugely influential, it is no wonder that he has work hanging in The National Portrait Gallery,” said Mel Fong, Chelsea U.K. head of sales, “His films, such as The Last Da Vinci for Christie’s, Highways England and Age UK blow me away in their understated power. He is a true artist in every sense.”
Kander explores simple ways to express the human condition as both a director and photographic artist. His “No More” campaign for the NFL and Grey, which premiered during the Super Bowl to over 100 million people, helped spark a national conversation about protection for victims of domestic violence. His work for Christie’s and Droga5, The Last Da Vinci, captures the sheer awe of onlookers observing the “Salvator Mundi” through hidden cameras and went on to become a viral phenomenon, garnering attention from The New York Times, The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal. Both spots accumulated coveted Cannes Lions, D&AD and One Show Pencils.
Kander’s landscape photography is revered and his seminal work “Yangtze – The Long River” won him photography’s most prestigious award, The Prix Pictet. He was also awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Photography by the Sony World Photography Awards.
“I’ve always had so much respect for Chelsea in the U.S. Their rigor, energy and no bullshit attitude serves them and me well,” stated Kander, “So to come on board in the U.K. feels natural and timely. I’m sure the same honesty and love of good film will be in the DNA here.”
Embracing his role as an outsider, Kander explores the edges and peripheries of society. He enjoys the paradox where something mundane is photographed beautifully, or something beautiful is photographed mundanely.
Prior to joining Chelsea for U.K. representation, Kander was handled in that market by production house Partizan.
Angelina Jolie To Receive Gothams Performer Tribute For “Marie”
The Gotham Film & Media Institute has announced that Academy Award®-winner Angelina Jolie will receive the Performer Tribute for her performance as Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain’s upcoming film Maria, at the 34th edition of The Gothams, taking place on Monday, December 2, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The tribute will honor Jolie’s rendition of legendary opera singer Callas.
“Like the legendary figure she portrays, Angelina Jolie transcends mere performance to craft something extraordinary. Her interpretation captures both Maria Callas’ complexity as an artist and the cultural resonance that defines an icon,” said Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of The Gotham. “We are thrilled to celebrate what is truly one of Ms. Jolie’s career-defining performances in the final installment of Pablo Larrain’s magnificent trilogy.”
Maria follows Callas, one of the most iconic performers of the 20th century, as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye. The film reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life. Written by Steven Knight, with cinematography by Ed Lachman and costumes by Massimo Cantini Parrini, Maria has Jolie joined by a star-studded cast including Alba Rohrwacher (Hungry Hearts, Happy As Lazzaro), Pierfrancesco Favino (Padrenostro, Adagio), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog, Dolemite Is My Name), and Valeria Golino (For Your Love, The Beautiful Game).
