    AJA agrees to acquire Comprimato
    GRASS VALLEY, Calif. --

AJA Video Systems has entered into an agreement to acquire Comprimato, a live video encoding and processing software provider for virtualized and cloud productions and broadcasts. Made just ahead of NAB 2026, the move will unify the AJA and Comprimato development teams behind AJA’s BRIDGE LIVE family of IP streaming products. Upon closing, the deal will help accelerate streaming innovation to bring customers enhanced workflow efficiency, improved content monetization opportunities, and more.

As part of the agreement, AJA will acquire Comprimato’s comprehensive portfolio of software solutions. This includes Live Transcoder for video encoding and transcoding, Live Standards Conversion for flexible frame rate conversion, the Twenty-One SMPTE ST 2110 encoding appliance, and the JPEG 2000 Codec SDK.

Comprimato CEO and co-founder Jiří Matela and the entire Comprimato leadership, development, and operations team will join AJA once the deal is closed. Comprimato will continue to operate as a separate brand under AJA and retain its European offices. Sales structures, including sales, channels, customer support, and currently shipping products, will not be impacted. The terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

“Comprimato has proven to be a trusted, strategic AJA partner for years now, supporting us through the continued evolution of our BRIDGE LIVE line of IP video solutions. This agreement sets our R&D, support, sales, and manufacturing on track to become tightly intertwined, which will allow us to accelerate development of the BRIDGE LIVE and Comprimato lines,” shared AJA’s Nick Rashby. “The synergies between our companies and technology are undeniable, and together, we’ll be able to address rapidly evolving customer needs faster than ever and break new ground in broadcast production.”

Matela added, “We’ve built Comprimato with a bold vision for the future of live encoding and media production – making broadcast-quality video processing more accessible, flexible, and powerful. AJA is the ideal partner to accelerate that vision. AJA’s global reach, hardware expertise, and manufacturing capabilities combined with our software innovation is expected to enable our team to move faster and bring solutions to market that neither company could achieve alone. The latest agreement marks an exciting next chapter for our team and our customers.”

Actor Anthony Head, known for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” dies at 72

Anthony Head, the suave, smooth-voiced British actor known for roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Ted Lasso," has died, his family said Friday. He was 72.

Head's daughters, actors Emily and Daisy Head, told the Press Association news agency that the actor passed away due to complications from pneumonia.

The stage and TV performer became well known to British audiences in the 1980s as one half of a will-they, won't-they romantic couple in a series of ads for Nescafe Gold Blend instant coffee. The ads were later re-shot for a U.S. audience for Taster's Choice.

Head achieved wider fame as librarian Rupert Giles, mentor to the title character in the cult-favorite supernatural series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," which ran from 1997 to 2003.

He most recently played Rupert Mannion, the villainous ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham's character Rebecca, in "Ted Lasso."

"Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of, and in the audiences that love them," his daughters said. "How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us."

Head was born in London on Feb. 20, 1954 to Seafield Head, a documentary filmmaker, and Helen Shingler, an actor. His older brother, Murray, is also an actor.

Other notable roles included playing Geoffrey Howe, the deputy to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, played by Meryl Streep, in the Oscar-winning "The Iron Lady."

Head portrayed a prime minister himself in the sketch comedy show "Little Britain," as well as King Uther Pendragon, the father of Prince Arthur, in the "Merlin" TV series. He also appeared in "Motherland," Manchild," and "Silent Witness," along... Read More
