Keanu Reeves to star in and exec produce “Rain”

TV show to be distributed by Slingshot Global Media

    LOS ANGELES --

Slingshot Global Media announced today that Keanu Reeves is attached to executive produce and star in the television series, Rain, based on the New York Times best-selling book series written by Barry Eisler.  Chad Stahelski and David Leitch will produce alongside Eisler.  Slingshot Global Media will executive produce and distribute the show.

“This series will be the launch pad for the company and highlight our talent-focused, quality-based approach within the ever-changing and expanding television space,” said Slingshot CEO David Ellender.

The show fits well within the new company’s objective of working closely with talent to develop series and limited-run programming for both traditional broadcast and cable networks, in addition to on demand options and premium pay services.

The show will be a globe-trotting action drama featuring the lead character, “John Rain,” a half-Japanese, half-American contract assassin who specializes in taking out his targets by making it look like death by natural causes.  An outsider in whatever world he’s in, Rain ironically finds that the one identity he knows–that of being a hitman–is the very thing that prevents him from bringing others closer into his life.  The show’s source material will be based on Eisler’s series of novels featuring Rain, including A Clean Kill in Tokyo, A Lonely Resurrection, Winner Take All, Redemption Games, Extremis, The Killer Ascendant, The Detachment, and Graveyard of Memories.

Reeves broke out as an actor with notable roles in films such as Dangerous Liaisons, Parenthood, Point Break, and Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho, opposite River Phoenix.  Reeves first gained mainstream attention playing the role of “Ted Logan” in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, which became a cultural phenomenon.  He later went on to become an action star with the box office hit Speed, in addition to the Matrix franchise.  Reeves’ career choices over the next two decades proved his versatility as an actor, with films such as The Devil’s Advocate, Much Ado About Nothing, A Walk in the Clouds, Constantine, The Lake House, A Scanner Darkly, and Something’s Gotta Give.  Most recently, Reeves made his directorial debut with Man of Tai Chi.  He also stars in the upcoming John Wick, directed by Stahelski and Leitch.

Rain will be Reeves’ first major starring and producing role in a television series, and Slingshot’s first officially announced project since the company formed in February.  The show fits well within the new company’s objective of working closely with talent to develop series and limited-run programming for both traditional broadcast and cable networks, in addition to on demand options and premium pay services.

RED Digital Cinema brings Cine-Broadcast Module to IBC

    Friday, August 29, 2025
    RED's Cine-Broadcast Module

RED DIGITAL CINEMA® will feature its latest breakthroughs in broadcasting technology at the 2025 International Broadcast Convention (IBC), held in Amsterdam from September 12–15. Conference-goers visiting RED will see its newest innovations demonstrated live and experience the cinematic imagery of RED’s advanced camera lineup firsthand.

RED’s Cine-Broadcast Module with Advanced Color Pipeline and EVS Integration Makes IBC Debut
Bringing filmic, full-frame imagery to live-broadcast workflows worldwide, RED’s Cine-Broadcast Module supports live broadcasting of up to two channels of 4K 60P (HDR/SDR) via 12G-SDI and IP broadcasting compliant with SMPTE ST 2110 (TR-08) and up to a 4K 60P JPEG-XS feed. It features a robust LEMO SMPTE 311M/304M hybrid fiber optical cable connector linked to a rack-mountable 2U full rack or 4U half rack base station. The module further expands workflows with advanced slow motion, AI/ML enhancements, and real-time 8K 120FPS R3D streaming through the RED Connect license-enabled feature.

Visitors to the stand will see the advanced Broadcast Color pipeline, which facilitates live painting of RED cameras in broadcast or streaming environments and allows for on-demand adjustments and multi-camera color matching using traditional broadcast controls. This latest functionality comes in a firmware update for RED’s V-RAPTOR XL and V-RAPTOR cameras and utilizes industry-standard RCPs to control painting parameters in real time over IP, while saving information per frame in the recorded file’s metadata.

New this year, RED will showcase the Cine-Broadcast Module’s seamless integration with EVS’ XT-VIA® live production server, which allows broadcasters to enhance their workflows with up to 4x... Read More
