McCann NY, Director Nanette Burstein Team On “She Can STEM” Campaign For Ad Council

To encourage girls to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), the Ad Council convened an unprecedented coalition of partners, including GE, Google, IBM, Microsoft and Verizon, to launch She Can STEM.

Women make up half of the total college-educated workforce in the U.S., but they hold only 25 percent of STEM jobs, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Research from the National Science Foundation shows that while approximately 66 percent of girls are interested in science in fourth grade, many lose interest in STEM as early as middle school, and this path continues through high school and college, ultimately leading to an underrepresentation of women in STEM careers.

This national public service campaign from McCann NY includes television, digital, social and print creative content that showcases the achievements of seven female STEM role models to reinforce the idea that STEM is cool, creative and inspiring to get more girls interested and involved.

In this ScreenWork entry, Bonnie Ross, head of the Halo Game Studio at Microsoft, meets and inspires a group of girls. The “She Can STEM” package of PSAs was directed by Nanette Burstein of Hungry Man. Other STEM role models in the campaign include: Lisa Seacat DeLuca, distinguished engineer at IBM; Tiera Fletcher, structural analysis engineer at Boeing; Maya Gupta, research scientist at Google; Danielle Merfeld, chief technology officer at GE Renewable Energy; Nicki Palmer, chief network engineering officer at Veriaon; and Lucianne Walkowicz, astronomer at the Adler Planetarium.

Top Spot of the Week: Dogs Trust and VCCP Blue Give Voice To A Canine In Xmas Campaign

    Thursday, November 27, 2025

Dogs Trust, the U.K.’s largest dog welfare charity--which cares for some 11,000 dogs annually across its network of 21 “rehoming” centers in the U.K. and one in Dublin--has unveiled its heartfelt Christmas campaign for the U.K. created by agency VCCP Blue.

At the heart of the campaign this :60 titled “Thank you for my Happy Place” which follows the Christmas Day of Buddy, a rescue dog, and Daisy, his best friend. Daisy’s holiday wish is that Buddy could talk to her for a day. Her wish comes true---told through a voiceover from Buddy’s perspective, narrated by actor Mark Benton, the film captures their growing connection across everyday moments: muddy walks, celebrations, quiet cuddles and festive joy. It builds to a heartwarming realization that, for a dog, the best gift isn’t wrapped, it’s the love of a human who makes them feel safe, seen, and at home. This message reinforces Dog Trust’s mission to ensure every dog finds the home and human they deserve.

The campaign was developed by VCCP creatives Jade Sturman and Tori Fannon. The film was directed by filmmaker Neil Gorringe through Girl&Bear Studios.

Ross Neil, executive creative director at VCCP, said, “We were struck by a simple but powerful truth: dogs can’t say thank you, not with words. But they show it every day, in their own way. We wanted to create something that wasn’t just festive, but lasting. A story that speaks to the heart of what it means to rescue, to care, and to be part of something bigger than yourself.”
