Production company Tomorrow has brought director Ben Nakamura Whitehouse aboard its roster for U.S. commercial representation. Most recently, Whitehouse has directed campaigns for Masterclass, Amazon, Pinterest, Google, Crea, and Weetabix.
Chris Zander, Tomorrow’s managing director, said of Whitehouse, “His work is a rare combination of visual sophistication and comedic wit. Hit pause on any frame in his spots, and you’ll be blown away by the DETAILS. He meticulously builds worlds, then he populates them with pitch-perfect acting and subtle, humorous performances that nail the landing.”
Whitehouse noted, “I’m buzzing to be joining forces with Tomorrow in the U.S.,” said Whitehouse. “In Chris Zander, I’ve found an EP who shares my love of deadpan comedy, meticulous craft, and brainstorms that require a safe word.”
Based in London and born to Welsh and Japanese artist parents, Whitehouse’s work blends British irony with worldly comedic sensibilities. Whitehouse studied photography and cinematography at film school, which explains why, as a comedy and performance director, he places a lot of importance on elevating the visuals. His approach to commercials is that even comedy is an overwhelmingly visual medium.
Whitehouse started his career in advertising as a director’s assistant and ghost writer to some major commercial filmmakers. Overseas, Whitehouse is repped for commercials by Stink Films in European and other territories, and by Revolver Films in Canada. Before joining Tomorrow, he was last officially repped in the U.S. by CoMPANY Films.
