    LOS ANGELES --

Kate Beecroft–best known for her breakout feature debut East of Wall, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and earned the Audience Award in the NEXT category–has officially signed with global media and entertainment company Rabbits Black for her first representation spanning commercials and branded work.

East of Wall, a hybrid of documentary and fiction, follows Tabatha Zimiga, a young horse trainer in South Dakota, as she navigates grief and financial hardship while providing refuge to wayward teens on her ranch. Beecroft spent years embedded in the community, crafting a narrative that blurs the lines between reality and fiction, showcasing her commitment to authentic storytelling. The project earned praise for its lyrical realism and immersive storytelling, qualities Beecroft is expected to bring into her commercial work. Beecroft joins Rabbits Black after recently signing with UTA for representation across film and television.

“Kate is a creative force,” said Ryan Hawkins, executive producer at Rabbits Black. “The raw inspiration with which she excavated truth and beauty from the world of East of Wall is one of the more impressive accomplishments I have seen by a filmmaker. We are so excited to present her to brands and ad agencies who yearn for that level of hard-hitting authenticity.”

The commercial division at Rabbits Black is led by Hawkins, an award-winning producer with extensive experience in branded content and independent film production, alongside Mike Bergin, a seasoned executive producer with over 15 years of experience in advertising and commercial production. Together, they aim to bridge the worlds of entertainment and advertising in the new commercial division. Hawkins and Bergin’s portfolio includes notable branded and commercial projects for global brands such as Activision, Adidas, Ferrari, Google, Nike, Samsung, Spotify, Starbucks, Target, U.S. Navy, United Airlines and Virgin Galactic.

“Rabbits Black immediately understood my instincts as a filmmaker – they’re creatively ambitious, deeply collaborative, and genuinely committed to emotionally honest storytelling,” said Beecroft. “They’re not chasing trends; they’re building something with intention. I’m excited to explore what’s possible in the commercial space with a team that shares my values and vision.”

Beecroft is based in Los Angeles and is currently developing her next narrative feature. East of Wall made its New York premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 11 and is set for a limited theatrical release on Friday (8/15) via Sony Pictures Classics, which acquired the feature at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Jury Finds Instagram and YouTube Liable In Landmark Social Media Addiction Trial

    Wednesday, March 25, 2026

Meta and YouTube must pay millions in damages to a 20-year-old woman after a jury decided the social media giant and video streamer designed their platforms to hook young users without concern for their well being. The California jury's decision Wednesday in a first-of-its-kind lawsuit could influence the outcome of thousands of similar lawsuits accusing social media companies of deliberately causing harm. The plaintiff, known by her initials KGM, testified at trial that she became addicted to social media as a child and that this addiction exacerbated her mental health struggles. After more than 40 hours of deliberations, a majority of jurors agreed and awarded her $3 million in damages. Jurors later recommended an additional $3 million in punitive damages after deciding the companies acted with malice, oppression or fraud in harming children with their platforms. The judge has final say over how much damages are awarded. It's the second verdict against Meta this week, after a jury in New Mexico determined the company harms children's mental health and safety, in violation of state law. Meta, the parent of Instagram and Facebook, and Google-owned YouTube issued statements disagreeing with the verdict and vowed to explore their legal options, which include appeals. Google spokesperson Jose Castañeda said the verdict misrepresents YouTube "which is a responsibly built streaming platform, not a social media site." A Meta spokesperson said teen mental health is "profoundly complex and cannot be linked to a single app." Peter Ormerod, an associate professor of law at Villanova University, called the verdict "a momentous development" but noted it's just "one step in a much longer saga" and that he doesn't expect to see large changes to the platforms...
