    LONDON --

The Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) has revealed the winners of its 13th Annual AMPS Awards, celebrating outstanding achievement in Television Drama, Factual Film and Audio Technology. The awards were presented on Sunday (4/12) at the University of Greenwich by AMPS chair George Foulgham and vice chair Kate Davis, bringing together leading talent from across the sound community to honor excellence in the craft.

The winners of the 2026 AMPS Television Drama, Factual Film & Audio Technology are:

    • Excellence in Sound for a Television Drama:

Winner: Netflix’s ADOLESCENCE Episode 1 (Kiff McManus AMPS, Rob Entwistle AMPS, Kyle Pickford AMPS, Michele Woods AMPS, James Drake, Jules Woods AMPS)

The nominees were: Black Mirror (Netflix), Silo (Apple TV) and Slow Horses (Apple TV), highlighting an exceptional range of soundtracks in scripted storytelling.

    • Excellence in Sound for a Factual Film:

Winner: OCEAN WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH (National Geographic/Disney+) (Ellie Williams AMPS, George Fry, Roy Noy, Graham Wild).

The nominees were: 7/7: The London Bombings (BBC), Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe (Apple TV), Michael Palin in Venezuela (Channel 5), Top Guns: Inside the RAF (Channel 4), reflecting the incredible diversity of subjects in factual filmmaking.

    • Excellence in a Production Hardware or Software Audio Product

    Winner: RADIUS – RADIUS MINI-ALTO

The nominees were: Ambient – LockitBT, AudioRoot – eSMART DUO power distributor, Audio Wireless – DT1 Digitally Tuned In-Line Antenna Booster, Sound Devices – Astral HH Microphone.

    • Excellence in a Post-Production Hardware or Software Audio Product

Winner: INTROSPECTER – INTROSPECTOR ORION SFX

The nominees were: Acon Digital – Extract:Dialogue 2, AiAudio Software – DX Assist, Soundminer Inc – Soundminer v6.2 Pro, Source Elements – Source-Connect 4.

On behalf of the Adolescence team, Kiff McManus said: “We’re very proud to win this award. All of the nominees were superb and there was nothing you could fault. We were lucky this time, the director pushed us so hard that we were forced to take it to another level.”

On behalf of the Ocean with David Attenborough team, sound recordist Ellie Williams said: “I am absolutely bowled over! It wasn’t just me, it was a whole load of recordists and some people in post as well, very much a team effort. It’s always wonderful to be part of David Attenborough’s films and this one has really spoken to the whole world in terms of ocean conservation. It’s really special to have a tiny part in that, and very fitting in the year of David’s 100th birthday.”

Simon Davies, managing director of Radius, said: “To be nominated in the first place for Radius Mini-Alto was fantastic but to actually win amongst so many great other brands is amazing! Thank you to the AMPS membership for voting for us.”

Marc Specter, creator of “Orion,” said: “We have had the great privilege of winning the AMPS award a few times for ‘Kraken’ in the past, and now for Introspecter Orion SFX! We’re delighted to have the appreciation of peers, colleagues and friends and to be able to develop software supported by the community and by the users.”

Harvey Weinstein is going on trial again in a New York rape case

After years of #MeToo infamy, legal peril and prison, Harvey Weinstein is again going on trial on a rape charge in New York City.

Jury selection started Tuesday in the onetime movie mogul's latest retrial, where jurors will weigh — for the third time — whether he raped hairstylist and actor Jessica Mann in a Manhattan hotel in 2013.

It's a more streamlined proceeding than the array of allegations that were aired at Weinstein's previous trials in New York and Los Angeles. The Oscar-winning producer denies all the accusations and declared in court this winter that he had "acted wrongly, but I never assaulted anyone."

Still, the retrial is expected to last up to six weeks. Questioned about the length of the proceeding and whether they could be fair and impartial about the much-publicized case, more than 80 prospective jurors asked to be excused during initial screening Tuesday morning.

About 60 others remained for further questioning in the afternoon.

    A surprise move from prosecutors
While Mann's accusation may be familiar, specifics of the case may differ. In a surprise move before jury selection began Tuesday, prosecutors suggested they might seek to introduce a new piece of evidence — a remark that Weinstein allegedly made to a court officer six years ago.

According to Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Candace White, the officer told prosecutors last week that he was on hand for Weinstein's February 2020 sexual assault conviction — which was later overturned — and heard Weinstein say: "If you had seen these girls, you would have done the exact same thing."

Weinstein's lawyers urged Judge Curtis Farber to keep any mention of the supposed remark out of his upcoming... Read More
