Bruce Springsteen to receive Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award, followed by a conversation between Springsteen and Bono

    NEW YORK --

The Tribeca Festival has unveiled its 2026 lineup of Talks, Reunions, and Retrospectives, a series of one-night-only events spanning film, music, and culture. Tribeca’s 25th anniversary edition runs June 3–14 in New York City.

“Tribeca was founded on the belief that storytelling brings people together and moves culture and our society forward. For 25 years, those ideas have shaped everything we do,” said Tribeca Festival co-founder and co-chair Jane Rosenthal. “This milestone Festival honors the artists who have defined our cultural landscape, including Bruce Springsteen’s enduring legacy, while revisiting films that continue to resonate across generations, like Taxi Driver. At the same time, we are proudly championing new voices and creating space for the next generation of storytellers. This balance between legacy and discovery is what keeps Tribeca vital, relevant, and looking ahead.”

Bruce Springsteen will receive the 2026 Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award, an honor established by the late Paula Weinstein–Tribeca’s former chief content officer, acclaimed producer, and lifelong activist. Named for Harry Belafonte, the legendary singer, actor, and civil rights leader who fused artistry with activism, the award recognizes artists who don’t just speak out, but actively use their platform to advance equality, dignity, and human rights. “There are few figures who embody the spirit of Tribeca’s Harry Belafonte Award more fully than Bruce Springsteen,” said Rosenthal.

The evening will bring together an extraordinary circle of artists and activists highlighted by a conversation between Springsteen and his longtime friend and fellow activist Bono. Robert De Niro and Patti Smith will also join to pay tribute to a legacy defined not just by artistry, but by action.

The Festival also announced today additional world premieres as part of the feature film lineup, including Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live in Paris, followed by a conversation with Katy Perry, and Tony Kaye’s Humpty Dumpty X, chronicling the director’s creative journey in the wake of directing American History X in 1998.

Fan-favorite retrospectives and reunions spotlight iconic films across genres and generations, with special screenings and conversations. Taxi Driver marks its 50th anniversary with a screening and conversation featuring Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese. Bridget Jones’s Diary celebrates its 25th anniversary followed by a conversation with director Sharon Maguire and Renée Zellweger. A newly restored 4K presentation of Daft Punk’s Electroma marks the film’s 20th anniversary, followed by a conversation with Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter.

The neo-noir debut Bound returns for its 30th anniversary screening, in association with Anarchists United, followed by a conversation featuring director Lilly Wachowski and stars Gina Gershon and Joe Pantoliano. The documentary Small Town Gay Bar, executive produced by Kevin Smith and directed by Malcolm Ingram, marks its 20th anniversary with a special screening celebrating its enduring portrait of community and self-expression in two Mississippi gay bars.

“Tribeca Festival has always been a home for artists and audiences to connect through meaningful storytelling, and this 25th anniversary festival is no different” said Meredith Mohr, Tribeca Festival SVP of artist relations. “This year’s conversations, reunions, and retrospectives celebrate the creative voices and cinematic moments that continue to shape how we experience film, music, and culture.”

Tribeca’s beloved Storytellers Series returns with a can’t miss lineup of live conversations. Sean Penn sits down with Kaitlan Collins, CNN chief White House correspondent and anchor of The Source, for a timely discussion on activism and global impact. Este Haim, best known as the bassist and vocalist of the groundbreaking rock trio HAIM and as a composer, shares insights from her work spanning performance and composing for film.

Other scheduled Storytellers Series moments are: Paul Rudd reflects on his wide-ranging career; NBA Hall of Famer and entrepreneur Dwyane Wade on his influence across sports, business, and culture; singer, songwriter, and producer Finneas brings his perspective as one of today’s most sought-after collaborators in a conversation with BAFTA-nominated composer Anthony Willis, who is quickly emerging as one of the most in-demand new voices in Hollywood. Keke Palmer rounds out the Storytellers Series in conversation with Whoopi Goldberg, remarking on her dynamic career across screen, music, and media.

The 2026 Tribeca Festival Talks, Reunions & Retrospectives lineup is detailed below.

Review: Director Andy Serkis’ “Animal Farm”

    Tuesday, April 28, 2026
This image released by Angel shows animated characters Snowball, voiced by Laverne Cox, left, and Rooster, voiced by Andy Serkis, in a scene from "Animal Farm." (Angel via AP)

There are some early cues that the new animated "Animal Farm" is not your grandmother's "Animal Farm." Like when one critter asks, "What's up?" and another says, "Totally rad." Did George Orwell really have one of his pigs scream, "Check it before you wreck it"? I don't want to get all prudish here; I'm all for reinventions and reintroductions. But screenwriter Nicholas Stoller and director Andy Serkis' awfully misguided Disneyfication of one of the greatest allegorical satires in the English language is a cinematic car crash. It's an adaptation for the "PAW Patrol" set made by filmmakers with the movie equivalent of baseball caps worn backward. They should have checked it before they wrecked it. Stoller hasn't made just demure alterations to Orwell's 1940s novella, he's dragged it through an abattoir, changing small things (a windmill becomes a watermill) to large (a new main character, the piglet Lucky). That whole anti-totalitarian thing that Orwell intended has been given a confusing side-message — a warning about Big Corporatization. ("I want that land. I need that land," says Freida Pilkington, remade as a venal corporate CEO.) The self-owns keep coming: An animal field trip to a human mall ("Don't think, just buy it! Buy it all!" the villain pig Napoleon screams), a rom-com grafted for Lucky, a nod to "Midnight Cowboy" ("I'm walkin' here!"), an alcohol-fueled pool party and a nadir when Napoleon — here renamed "NaPoPo" — farts loudly and exclaims: "This is the sound of freedom!" Here's an "Animal Farm" made modern and cheery, complete with iPhones, sports cars with gull wings, camera-loaded drones, Hazmat suits and digital screens. Instead of an ever-darkening color palette, it's as bright and bouncy as "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood," even... Read More
