    Lindsay Sunada
    LOS ANGELES --

Invisible Collective has brought director Lindsay Sunada aboard its roster for representation in the U.S./Latin American markets spanning commercials, branded content and music videos. This marks her first commercial representation as a solo director. Sunada was previously repped by Late Shift when she was half of the directing duo scout (partnered with director Jensen Vinca).

Hawaii-based filmmaker Sunada often explores the human experience through a female gaze. Her cinematic style can be seen in work as an individual director for Maoi Swim, a spec piece for Suntory, a choreographed music video for Joey Purp, a Nezza Sola music video, and the short film Yurei. She also directed an eBay project in collaboration with CGI studio NotReal, which helmed the animation side of the job. Her projects as part of the scout team spanned such brands as Hilton/Waldorf Astoria, EOS, California Naturals, Turtle Bay, Haku the Label and a spec piece for Calvin Klein.

Of her decision to join Invisible Collective, Sunada shared, “I wasn’t just looking for representation. I was looking for a place to put down roots and grow as a creative. Invisible genuinely champions their directors and from our very first conversation, it felt like the right place to be. I’m also a firm believer that what separates emerging directors from the heavy hitters isn’t talent, but access and opportunity. Finding a company that shares that belief makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more excited to begin this next chapter with them.”

Sunada’s path into directing began in the art department, where she worked as a production designer, art director, and set dresser after graduating from Loyola Marymount University. That foundation continues to shape her perspective behind the camera, informing a process rooted in world-building, vibrant colors, and small details that deepen a story.

Sunada’s work is also shaped by her multicultural background and surroundings. Of Taiwanese and Japanese descent, with multigenerational roots in Hawaii, Sunada draws from a unique blend of influences, from East Asian folktales to her passion for the outdoors, and the complexity of the human experience. In 2024 as half of scout, she was one of six fellows chosen for the AICP x DGA Commercial Directors Diversity Program (CDDP). That same year scout earned a slot in SHOOT’s New Directors Showcase.

“Lindsay is an incredible signing for us,” said Invisible executive producer Sam Kelly Jr. “We first connected through the DGA’s CDDP program, and I was immediately struck not only by her professional initiative but by her versatile command of the craft. As a director, writer, and designer, she approaches every project with a rare blend of artistic flair, vivid imagery, and sharp intention.”

In addition to her directing work, Sunada is currently editing her first novel, a YA fantasy that tackles contemporary issues through the lens of Japanese folklore, continuing to expand her storytelling across formats.

“Disclosure Day” Answers Questions From Spielberg’s “Close Encounters,” Josh O’Connor Says

Josh O'Connor heard a quote once that said that Steven Spielberg was like "the director of every child's imagination." The British actor may not have grown up in a moviegoing family, but he was still very aware the Spielberg thing as a '90s kid. It's just in our psyche, O'Connor said in a recent interview. There were Blockbuster nights, of course, with viewings of "E.T." and he's since caught up with the classics. But even he was taken aback by just how ingrained those quintessential Spielberg images were on his first day shooting "Disclosure Day." They were on a backlot, he said, and there were dripping pipes and big beams of light and smoke and mist. It was an environment he recognized so vividly. All he could think was, "Wow, I'm in a Steven Spielberg movie." While very little is known about the plot of "Disclosure Day," which opens in theaters on June 12, it's territory that Spielberg knows well. And it has been suggested by Emily Blunt, and confirmed by O'Connor, that it answers some questions raised by "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." O'Connor plays a cybersecurity expert who has a mysterious connection with Blunt's meteorologist. He holds some truths that the men in suits don't want the world to know. O'Connor spoke about the film, the secrecy, the awe of watching it for the first time and having "the greatest Steven Spielberg story." Remarks have been edited for clarity and brevity. Q: Have you been able to take stock of this whole experience? O'CONNOR: It's sort of still quite surreal. There have been many directors for me where it's felt like kind of intensely surreal in the lead up to going and doing a movie with a person and then once you start, it sort of settles down and then the next thing you know...
