    Top Spot of the Week: Airwallex, Uncommon Creative Studio and Director Sam Walker Generate “SPARKS” Of Innovation

    Airwallex unveils its first global brand platform, “Build the Future,” created in collaboration with Uncommon Creative Studio. The campaign looks to position Airwallex as the business banking partner for companies shaping what comes next.

    At the heart of the launch is this brand anthem film titled “SPARKS” — a statement of intent designed to cut through the conventions of the category. The film explores the moment of ingenuity: the spark behind every new business, breakthrough idea, or bold reinvention.

    An ode to ingenuity, “SPARKS” celebrates the irrational, relentless spirit that sees opportunity everywhere–the same dynamic that fuels both Airwallex and its customers.

    Shot in striking black and white, “SPARKS” opens with the jolt of an alarm clock before unfolding a sequence of human innovations–from the zip to jazz music, the seatbelt to the defibrillator, each presented in its pure functional form. As the film progresses, these inventions begin to take on deeper emotional meaning: a typewriter becomes freedom, a baseball game becomes entertainment, and a spacesuit becomes progress. The film culminates in the line: “They all started with a person. They all started with a spark. Make those ideas happen.”

    Visually, the film is crafted using a rotating rig technique, creating a seamless, kinetic sequence that continuously reveals each scene, mirroring the momentum of ideas in motion.

    Directed by Sam Walker through Creators Inc, the film was shot in-camera with bespoke lighting set ups for each scene, created on location in the desert. The cinematography of each vignette reflected the different eras of the ideas and inventions. The continuous whip pan camera technique was created with DP Chayse Irvin (Blonde, BlacKKKlansman, Lemonade). The piece culminates in an epic in-camera 360 degree cacophony of fireworks, firing off in all directions simultaneously, representing endless ideas being launched into the world.

    The raucous jazz soundtrack, ‘That’s It’ from The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, powers the film along at an unapologetically frenzied pace giving the impression of unrestrained ideas.

    Director Walker, who’s also global creative partner at Uncommon Creative Studio, said, “We wanted to capture that fleeting, electric moment when an idea first comes to life–the spark. It’s irrational, it’s urgent and it’s deeply human. By celebrating the inventions that shaped our world, we’re reminding people that every breakthrough starts small — and that’s exactly the mindset Airwallex exists to support.”

    Toyota, Burrell, Director Paul Hunter and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Prove EV Skeptics Wrong In “Haters Anthem”

    Toyota and Chicago-based agency Burrell have launched the Toyota BEV Family Campaign: a series of spots that follow electric vehicle skeptics as they’re won over by the bZ, bZ Woodland, and C-HR, one by one.

    The campaign’s hero spot, “Haters Anthem,” opens on three skeptics portrayed as puppets, each one doubtful and vocal about it, who are converted into Toyota BEV believers after getting behind the wheel. When they convert, the puppets transform into their human selves.

    To build them, Burrell partnered with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which designed and built five custom puppets over six weeks, each with intricate mechanisms for unique arm and foot movements. A dedicated hairdresser ensured curly locs, fades, and twists were executed precisely and matched across both the puppet and human versions of each character. An all-Black puppeteer team, led by puppet captain Raymond Carr, handled performance and choreography throughout.

    The work was directed by Paul Hunter via production house PRETTYBIRD, with “Haters Anthem” by Infinity Song, a four-sibling soft rock band signed to Roc Nation.

    Burrell’s creative is grounded in a real audience insight: Black consumers have been underserved by the EV category, and nobody has built a campaign that reflects their vision of what electric driving looks and feels like.
