On Friday, November 14, 2025, composer Mikel Hurwitz announced the release of the original soundtrack for Soul of a Nation, on all major streaming platforms. The score accompanies the acclaimed documentary directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, which explores identity, polarization, and the fragile threads of unity in an increasingly divided world.
While Soul of a Nation might appear to be a film about Israel and the Middle East, its heart beats to a more universal rhythm. “At its core, it’s about polarization, how we’ve become programmed within our echo chambers, and it challenges us to relearn how to listen to one another with open hearts,” says Hurwitz.
Leading off the soundtrack is the featured track “All Sides,” an electrifying fusion of orchestral power and modern electronics that sets the tone for the entire score. Recorded with a live orchestra in Budapest and featuring violin soloist Aiko Jimena, the piece blends a Moog-driven bass and an otherworldly shofar melody, symbolizing the film’s sweeping spectrum of voices — left and right, secular and religious, politicians and protestors.
“There’s something epic and cinematic about how this whole film was shot, and the opening sequence, from which the track ‘All Sides’ is taken, sets the tone for the whole film. I wanted this track to grow from a simple chord and build to an epic finish, then make space for the shofar melodic theme”, Hurwitz explains. “Composing the score transformed the way I think about sound and storytelling. Writing this score became a form of self-inquiry — an exploration of connection through sound.”
Hurwitz credits the creative direction and freedom granted by Jakubowicz and the team at Epicentral Studios for allowing him to experiment and expand his musical language. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of his career, and its themes of identity, division, and unity resonated with him deeply.
The Soul of a Nation (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) — featuring the highlight track “All Sides” – is now available to listen, on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major streaming platforms.
