Rhys Demery joins loyalkaspar as exec producer in L.A.

Branding and creative agency loyalkaspar has added Rhys Demery as executive producer. Joining the bicoastal agency’s Los Angeles office, Demery brings well over a decade of production experience spanning broadcast design, integrated content, traditional on-air spots, branded content, digital and social.

Demery arrives at loyalkaspar following a stint as executive producer at Troika, where he led the agency’s in-house production team through a wide range of work for clients such as Hulu, Riot Games, CBS Sports, UFC, HBO Sports, CNN, NBC and Turner. Before that, he was EP of digital for a myriad of client-direct accounts at ModOp. His tenure with the agency yielded campaigns for Nike, Intel, EA Sports, Sony PlayStation, as well as an award-winning launch campaign for Ubisoft and their flagship video game title, Assassin’s Creed 3.

Demery forged his career as a producer at Dentsu America and Think C, making his big splash with show packages for ESPN and the main title for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

BBD Perfect Storm hires Ducharme as operations director

Kieve Ducharme has joined BBD Perfect Storm as its first operations director to oversee all aspects of the London-based agency’s operations and production.

She was previously at Quiet Storm where she had been overseeing production and operations.  Ducharme has integrated experience in branded entertainment, content and broadcast and was previously part of Hogarth, the production arm of WPP where she built joint ventures with agencies such as Grey London, J.Walter Thompson, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and Ogilvy & Mather, overseeing production teams across TV, digital and content production.

Ducharme is from Montreal, where she worked at McCann and Sid Lee on brands such as Adidas, Cirque due Soleil and MGM. She has been in London for six years.

Director Jonathan Gurvit joins 1stAveMachine for North American representation

BROOKLYN, NY -- 

Production company 1stAveMachine has added director Jonathan Gurvit to its North American roster.

After spending a decade honing his craft on the agency side in the South American market, where he held ECD and head of art roles at shops such as Del Campo Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi and Ogilvy Argentina, Gurvit decided to permanently settle into the director’s chair in 2011. “As a creative, I was really involved on every project with the production houses and directors,” he explained. “In 2010, I shot my first piece, ‘Hair Conditioner,’ for Santander Bank while still being the ECD of Ogilvy Argentina. After winning my first Cannes Lions as a director for that project, I felt in my guts that I really could do it myself.”

Gurvit’s initial Cannes Lion was just one of 18 won by the creative-turned-director, who also earned awards at major shows including D&AD, CLIO, New York Festival and One Show, and worked with brands such as Coca-Cola, Unilever and Procter & Gamble.

Sean Patrick Kelly becomes head of production at Cause and Effect

Sean Patrick Kelly has been named head of production at Cause and Effect, the creative production company specializing in branded content, design and animation, live action, and brand marketing.

In his new role, Kelly will oversee the production of all live-action ad campaigns, continue to build client and agency relations and write and direct creative projects. Kelly advances to this role from supervising producer, a position he’s held at the company since 2014. He was integral to the production of more than 100 commercials and campaigns for clients such as MTV, Nickelodeon, IFC, Hulu and NBC. Kelly will continue to report directly to partner/executive producer Jason Zemlicka and partner/executive creative director Jamie Hubbard.

Kelly joined Cause and Effect in 2012 as a line producer, having previously worked as producer and production manager for a variety of studios including Good Great Grand and Bunker. With a background in producing, writing, and directing live action, commercials and branded content, Kelly has received accolades including a Clio Sports Gold, Promax Gold, a Silver Cannes Lion and an honorary Webby.

He is one half of directing duo Sean&Steve, a creative partnership he shares with Steve Figueiredo, also a producer at Cause and Effect. The team writes and directs narrative comedy projects and digital shorts. Most recently, they directed Cause and Effect’s digital campaigns for Hulu and Johnson & Johnson, as well as a national brand tie-in for IFC and Geico.

Editor Stéphane Pereira joins Cutters

Cutters Studios has added feature film, television and commercial editor Stéphane Pereira to its staff, where he will be represented by the company throughout North America and Asia. The announcement was made by Cutters Los Angeles executive producer Megan Dahlman. According to Dahlman, Pereira began handling projects with Cutters over the past six months, and the success of those collaborations paved the way for the new relationship. Pereira continues to be represented by Melting Pot Agency in Europe.

Pereira is well-known globally for his work with leading directors and agencies in the commercial field, and for his long history of editing feature films, TV programs and shorts for an ever-expanding group of directors. At present, he is completing the forthcoming narrative feature from director Julien Rambaldi, for whom he edited the short “Scotch” (2003) and the feature film “Les meilleurs amis du monde” (2010). Also among Pereira’s feature credits is director Alain Chabat’s “Asterix and Obelix Meet Cleopatra” (2002) starring Gerard Depardieu and Monica Belucci, which was a huge commercial success in Europe.

The son of French sound engineer Gilbert Pereira, Stéphane was born in Paris. He attended film school at Ecole Supérieur de Réalisation Audiovisuelle before spending five years editing documentaries. From there, he began working with such directors as Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, Laurent Chanez, and Reynald Gresset. Among Pereira’s credits are four of the annual Nespresso world campaigns starring George Clooney and directed by Grant Heslov (Academy Award-winning producer for Best Motion Picture in 2013 for “Argo”). In the past year alone, Pereira has cut commercials starring Clooney, Rihanna and Cristiano Ronaldo, to name but a few.

Annick Mayer promoted to EP at Butter Music + Sound’s L.A. office

Butter Music + Sound has promoted Annick Mayer to executive producer in its Venice studio. Mayer has been with Butter for nearly four years as a senior producer in New York and then as a part of the launch team in the Southern California office. She has a diverse background in both music and advertising. Her promotion comes ahead of the launch of Butter Music + Sound’s debut European outpost, which will be led by current LA EP Marcus Nelson.

“Annick and I made a great team launching the West Coast studio,” said Nelson. “And now that we are up and running I’m off to launch Butter in Europe! It makes perfect sense for Annick to take over, as she has proven to be a driving force in our Butter family.”

Mayer followed a love of music to study at Berklee College of Music, eventually making her way to New York City, where she graduated from The New School, studying music and new media. She got her professional start at music marketing firm Sneak Attack Media, working with rising artists of the time such as Calvin Harris. She segued her music expertise into journalism, covering the beat as a freelance music writer and expanding that role to include directing and producing video/photo editorials as a founding editor of creative webzine Arcade44.tv.

In 2010, she shifted into the advertising world, landing the role of associate integrated producer at Saatchi & Saatchi NY. Her passion for music was reignited while collaborating with Butter EP Ian Jeffreys and CCO Andrew Sherman on a music showcase with then Butter artist in residence, Kishi Bashi. She officially joined the Butter team in 2012, migrating west to be a part of the team opening the Venice studio in 2014.

Juan Cruz Vassallo named associate creative director at the community

Cross-cultural agency the community, part of SapientNitro, has appointed Juan Cruz Vassallo to serve as associate creative director. Based in Miami, he will report directly to creative director Rodrigo Butori.

Prior to joining the community, Vassallo was an associate creative director at Conill Saatchi & Saatchi and LatinWorks. Before that, he was at Alma where he led the creative team on The Clorox Company, while also supporting creative efforts for McDonald’s and State Farm. A native of Argentina, Vassallo began his career as a jr. copywriter at J. Walter Thompson Argentina and a sr. copywriter at Ponce Buenos Aires. Throughout his career he has worked on brands such as Toyota, Tide, T-Mobile, Chevrolet, Domino’s Pizza, Ford Motor Company, Knorr, Bayer and Nestle, garnering accolades from Cannes, D&AD, Andy, Effie, among others.

Rob Curran named head of user experience at Wunderman UK

Wunderman UK has appointed Rob Curran as head of user experience.

Curran joins from RAPP, where he was director of user experience, to lead the charge in ensuring that Wunderman UK continues to offer the best in class digital experiences to its clients. He will be working across a number of accounts, including Legal and General, News UK, GSK and Shell.

Curran was also previously sr. strategy consultant at The Reading Room. At Wunderman UK he will join the strategy department headed by the UK’s chief strategy officer, Richard Dunn.

Reporting to Dunn, Curran will work across various client portfolios, bringing a wealth of experience having previously worked across Nestle and Unilever in consumer services, Nationwide in financial, and Virgin Media/Paypal in technology.

Ricardo Diaz named executive digital director at Omelet

Diaz joins the company from the leadership team at Zambezi, Inc. and more than six years as director of creative technology at TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles. In his new position and as a member of Omelet’s eight-person executive team, Diaz will be critical in helping the company grow and shape its digital discipline while also working closely with the creative and strategy teams to continue to inspire innovative ideas for the digital world.

Bringing more than 20 years of experience to his new position, Diaz has previously spent time with agencies including not only Zambezi, Inc. and TBWA\Chiat\Day, but also The Cannery. Crissy DeSimone joins Arcade Edit as EP

Bicoastal Arcade Edit has hired Crissy DeSimone as executive producer in its Los Angeles office. She comes over from NO6, where she spent seven years as an executive producer, helping to open its offices in New York and L.A.  

Having worked in the field for 20 years, DeSimone has assorted notable credits, including commercials for Barbie out of BBDO San Francisco, Burger King’s “Whopper Virgins” and the 2013 Super Bowl spot for Best Buy starring Amy Poehler with Crispin Porter + Bogusky, PlayStation’s “Cubs” spot for MLB12 with Deutsch, and a spot for EA’s “Star Wars: Battlefront” featuring actress Anna Kendrick as a wannabe Jedi. DeSimone’s work also spans such brands as Taco Bell, Volkswagen and Microsoft.

Originally from New York, DeSimone currently lives in Los Angeles. She studied Fine Arts at Boston University before getting her start in postproduction at Swietlik LA as a producer.
