LOS ANGELES (AP) --

Led Zeppelin may have won the copyright war over its creation of "Stairway to Heaven," but it lost its battle Monday to recoup nearly $800,000 in defense fees.

Judge R. Gary Klausner ruled that the band's songwriters, record label and associated companies were not entitled to legal fees and other costs because the copyright lawsuit against them was not frivolous.

A Los Angeles federal jury in June found that guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant did not lift the introduction of "Stairway" from an obscure instrumental written by the late Randy Wolfe, founder of the band Spirit.

The trust for Wolfe, better known as Randy California, claimed Page and Plant were familiar with his work and stole a riff from the short tune "Taurus" that repeats throughout the first two minutes of their 1971 classic rock anthem.

Wolfe's trust had been seeking credit for the song and millions of dollars in damages. But jurors found the tunes More

LOS ANGELES (AP) --

The author of the series that inspired HBO's "Game of Thrones" has another television adaptation in the works.

George R. R. Martin announced on his blog that the TV rights to "Wild Cards," the graphic novel anthologies he edits, have been acquired by Universal Cable Productions.

The company, which is part of NBCUniversal, posted on Twitter Monday that it is excited to develop the material into a series.

Martin says "Wild Cards" assistant editor Melinda M. Snodgrass will serve as executive producer of the show.

The 22-book series centers on the survivors of a fictional alien virus that struck New York City in 1946, deforming some and providing extraordinary power to others. A 23rd volume is due later this month. Martin says development of the TV series will begin immediately.

NEW YORK (AP) --

Hulu is dropping the free TV episodes that it was initially known for as it works on an online television service to rival cable TV.

Free episodes - typically the most recent four or five episodes from a show's current season - will be gone from the site within a few weeks. Instead, Hulu is making free episodes available through Yahoo .

While Hulu started as a free site, supported by advertising, free video has become increasingly more difficult to find as Hulu tries to lure viewers into a subscription - $8 a month for a plan with ads, and $12 without. In recent months, visitors to Hulu.com have been presented with prominent links to subscribe, with links to free video buried in a menu after signing in.

And free episodes haven't been available on Hulu's mobile apps or streaming-TV devices, just on Hulu.com from a traditional computer. Now, they won't be on Hulu.com at all.

Devotees of Hulu's free on-demand videos will be able More

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) --

Organizers say Robert De Niro will present Martin Scorsese's restored "Taxi Driver" at the opening night of the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival and receive the festival's first lifetime achievement award.

Festival organizers said Monday that De Niro, who has won the Golden Globe, two Oscars and was nominated for another five Oscars, will receive the first honorary Heart of Sarajevo lifetime achievement award for his extraordinary contribution to the art of film.

The festival, which opens Friday, will offer viewers 223 movies from 61 countries over nine days.

The Balkan region's most important film festival draws more than 100,000 people each year and has come a long way from its humble beginnings in a city roamed by snipers and blasted by mortar shells during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.

BOSTON (AP) --

It took a half-century for DNA sleuthing to finger Albert DeSalvo as the Boston Strangler. Now a new movie is revisiting one of America's most notorious serial killer cases and the bizarre involvement of a man who claimed psychic powers to help police investigate.

"Stranglehold" will tell the story of the Boston Strangler Task Force - a special unit assembled by the Massachusetts attorney general's office to capture the man behind nearly a dozen unsolved murders of women between 1962 and 1964.

Writer-director Barry L. Levy grew up hearing about the Strangler as a child in suburban Newton and Natick. A news article about Peter Hurkos, the enigmatic Dutch-born psychic who helped investigators search for clues, rekindled his interest.

"The Strangler was that story that, when you were a kid, everyone heard," Levy told The Associated Press. "Ever since I knew I wanted to be a director, I knew this is what I wanted to do."
