Christopher Neff joins the community as sr. director of innovation

MIAMI -- 

Cross-cultural agency the community has hired Christopher Neff as sr. director of Innovation, a new, interdisciplinary role that sits between the agency’s creative and strategic practices. Based in Miami, Neff will report to Luis Montero, president of the community.

Neff joins the community from Tool of North America, where he was the director of digital and experiential/EP.  In this role, he managed projects across digital, experiential, and VR for brands including Infiniti, IBM, and Domino’s.  Prior to Tool, Neff served as director of interactive production at 180LA, where he executed several notable projects including Pepsi’s “Now is What You Make It” World Cup campaign and HP’s award-winning interactive YouTube experience, “2Days Beat.” While there, he was also on the team that executed the award-winning campaign that buried $1 million in the oceans of Google Earth for Sony’s Facebook-based Project Shiphunt.
 
Neff’s work over the years has won more than 30 industry awards, including recognition from the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, One Show, One Show Entertainment, CSS Design Awards, Clio, and D&AD.

Jimmy Helm promoted to editor at The Colonie

The Colonie, a Chicago-based editorial, visual effect, motion graphics shop, has promoted Jimmy Helm to editor.

Helm honed his craft working with The Colonie’s senior editors on a wide range of projects over the past seven years. Most recently, Helm has been managing ongoing social media work with Facebook, Inc. and conceptualizing and editing short format advertisements. Some of the clients he’s working with include Lyft, Dos Equis, Capital One, Heineken & Microsoft.

A filmmaking major at Columbia College Chicago, Helm applied for an internship at The Colonie in 2010. Six months later he was offered a full-time position as an assistant editor, working alongside veteran cutter Tom Pastorelle on commercials for brands such as McDonald’s, Kellogg’s, Quaker, and Wrangler. During this time, Helm edited numerous projects on his own, including broadcast commercials for Centrum and Kay Jewelers. 
 
In 2014, Helm was promoted to senior assistant editor and continued to hone his editing skills while taking on a leadership role. His keen creative sensibility and versatility earned him accolades at AICE’s annual Camp Kuleshov editing competition in 2014 and 2015. 
 
Helm joins The Colonie’s editorial team, comprised of Joe Clear, Keith Kristinat, Tom Pastorelle, and Brian Salazar along with editors and partners Bob Ackerman and Brian Sepanik.  The full-service boutique’s cutters are part of a multi-disciplined collective of talent that also includes VFX artist Tom Dernulc, and motion graphic designers Lyndsay McCully and Jennifer Moody. They are supported by assistant editors Graham Chapman, Lauren Malis, Ben Pokorny and Nathan Rodgers.

EP Julia Merrill joins Nine Mile Circle

Nine Mile Circle, which provides editorial, finishing, sound and color services for commercials, television and film, has hired Julia Merrill as executive producer. Merrill, whose background includes nine years as a writer/producer for Cartoon Network, will lead client relations, business development and project management. She will also work with Nine Mile Circle editor and owner Kyle Kramb in implementing the company’s further expansion plans, including a move to a larger facility this fall.

Merrill has worked in Atlanta’s media and entertainment industry for 15 years. A graduate of Georgia State University, she joined Cartoon Network in 2002. There, she wrote and produced promos and other broadcast media for the network’s shows and for advertising partners, including McDonald’s and Sony Pictures. For the past three years, she has worked as a freelance writer, producer and project manager, handling a wide range of assignments for local agencies, producers, post houses and digital studios. She began her career as an editor.

Infinity Squared adds director Nicholas Reynolds

Director Nicholas Reynolds has joined the roster of Sydney-based Infinity Squared. 
 
Working both internationally and locally, Reynolds has helmed communications for a large variety of brands and clients. This includes recent work for Philips through Ogilvy London and Axe with Oliver New York. Earlier projects include assignments for companies and brands such as Virgin Mobile and McDonald’s (France), Molson and Coors Beer (Canada) and closer to home in Australia with Specsavers, Nestle, Commonwealth Bank, Lion Breweries and Independent Breweries of New Zealand.
 
He counts among his awards Cannes Gold for Ikea’s “Dog” and Virgin Credit Cards’ “Plastic Surgery,” and Cannes Bronze as well as One Show and D&AD recognition for Lynx Jet (Lowe Hunt).

Infinity Squared’s EP Cathy Rechichi has previously worked with Reynolds across a variety of projects and this represents a logical extension of a relationship that has delivered much great work.

Director Bryce Wymer joins Mill+

Mill+ has added Bryce Wymer to its directorial roster. Wymer’s directing ranges from traditional live action storytelling to interactive experiential design. 

Beyond directing commercials and title sequences for top tier brands such as Coach, Reebok, HBO, and Netflix, Wymer can be found painting, designing, and illustrating at Flat Earth, his own artistic studio in Brooklyn. 

He is constantly experimenting within a variety of expressive mediums, working to push the boundaries of digital narrative and expand his unique style as a director and artist.
 
A long-time friend of The Mill, Wymer has collaborated with the New York studio on a number of occasions as a freelancer, most notably on Coach’s “Rexy” and the award-winning Marco Polo title sequence. He now becomes officially rostered with Mill+. Prior to freelancing he was represented by Detour Films.
 
With his wealth of industry experience and depth of knowledge within the field of VFX and motion design, Wymer will perfectly complement the existing Mill+ team of directorial talent.

Jax Ostle-Evans named managing director of Stink Studios UK

LONDON -- 

Executive producer Jax Ostle-Evans will be taking over the running of the Stink Studios’ London office as managing director. This new position has been formed following the promotion of James Britton to global managing director in June.

Ostle-Evans has been at the forefront of development within the business since her arrival at Stink Studios in November 2012. Over the last four years, she has helped lead digital and content innovation, advancing the company’s offerings to ambitious modern brands in technology, fashion and entertainment

Reporting to Britton, she will work closely with the current leadership across Stink Studios’ seven global offices.

Ostle-Evans’ hybrid experience in commercial film, digital and content production makes her uniquely placed to fulfill this role. Before joining Stink Studios in 2012, she set up Superglue, the internal production company at Glue London (now Isobar) where as EP she worked on groundbreaking projects such as Toyota’s “Get Your Energy Back” and a pioneering interactive film for MINI. Her career began in 2002 as a commercial film producer at Arden Sutherland-Dodd.

Since being with Stink Studios, Ostle-Evans has spearheaded innovative projects for clients such as Sky, Google, and the recent Cannes Lions winning “Your Next Great Idea” campaign for Pinterest.

Ostle-Evans has a won a number of awards including 21 Golds and 15 Silvers at Cannes Lions, One Show and D&AD. In 2015 she was invited to join the Film Craft jury at Cannes Lions, and has also judged at Eurobest, Dubai Lynx, The British Arrows Craft Awards, and the Cyber jury for Cannes Young Lions.

Eric Steele named group creative director at Translation

Eric Steele has been named group creative director at Translation where he will report to chief creative officer John Norman.

Prior to joining Translation, Steele served as the first group creative director at 72andSunny New York, where he helped build the office from a startup into a full-fledged agency, leading creative efforts on work for Smirnoff, Samsung, ESPN and Comcast Xfinity. Before moving to 72andSunny, Steele spent nearly a decade at Wieden+Kennedy as a creative director and writer in the New York office, partnering with brands like ESPN, Nike, Jordan, Heineken and Delta. He netted millions in earned media with a stunt in which Heineken dared travelers at JFK Airport to spontaneously go somewhere new and exotic instead of their planned destination.

Editor Ethan Mitchell joins Cut+Run

Cut+Run has added editor Ethan Mitchell to its roster. Mitchell will be based out of the NYC office and is also available to work via Cut+Run’s locations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Austin. The editor is known for editing beauty-infused work in a variety of genres, including visual storytelling, documentary, comedy, and brand supported narratives.

Mitchell, who was at The Whitehouse for a decade before joining Cut+Run, has earned a reputation for his visually playful and striking campaigns for Google, Apple, Spotify, and Adidas with agency partners 72andSunny, Sid Lee, Droga5, Johannes Leonardo, Translation, and mcgarrybowen.

He has worked alongside directors who include Marielle Heller, The Fines, Ben Gregor, and ab/cd/cd.  But it’s the editor’s close collaboration with director Matthew Frost and Iconoclast that has resulted in astute, category defining projects including the social satire fashion shorts “Aspirational” starring Kirsten Dunst, the Clio award winning “Scripted Content” with Jessica Chastain, and Givenchy’s quirky and disarming perfume launch “Very Irresistible” with Amanda Seyfried.

Final Cut adds editor Eric Alexander-Hughes

Final Cut continues its string of talent additions with the signing of documentary and music video editor Eric Alexander-Hughes. He served as an additional editor on the entire documentary miniseries The Defiant Ones, which recently debuted on HBO. The Defiant Ones explores the relationship between noted record producer Jimmy Iovine and rap artist Dr. Dre, their collaborators, and their impact on music and popular culture.

Final Cut will represent Alexander-Hughes for commercials, branded content and music videos in the U.S. and U.K. He has become a longtime and frequent collaborator with renowned music video director Hype Williams. Additionally Alexander-Hughes has worked alongside such directors as Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry. 

The son of director Allen Hughes of the Hughes Brothers (Dead Presidents, From Hell, The Book of Eli), Alexander-Hughes has been editing since he was a kid. He was inspired from an early age by the late Prince, “I remember reading books about Prince when I was young that really inspired me. I admired his drive and commitment to honing his craft at a young age and connected with his identity as a biracial artist that was unbound by convention.” 

Since then, music, politics and a commitment to craft have been at the heart of the editor’s life and work.

Eric McCasline, EP at Final Cut LA, who has been working with Alexander-Hughes for years, said, “Eric is really hitting his stride as an editor. We are so happy to have him and look forward to many productive years with him at Final Cut.”

Alexander-Hughes related, “I’m glad to be joining the editors at Final Cut. From Paul Zucker and Jeff Buchanan, to the ‘commander in chief’ himself Rick Russell, I’m very much looking forward to having a home here amongst these artists.”

Tom Sebok named chief client officer at MXM

Tom Sebok has been named chief client officer at agency Meredith Xcelerated Marketing (MXM), a content-powered digital agency which is part of Meredith Corporation (NYSE: MDP). Based in the company’s New York office, Sebok will report to Georgine Anton, president, and will be responsible for managing client relationships across MXM’s entire portfolio.

At BBDO Worldwide, Sebok led its global service of PepsiCo across 80 countries.  Previously, Sebok was CEO of Young & Rubicam in North America.  Before Y&R, Sebok was EVP, managing director, at BBDO where he served as global account leader for PepsiCo, FedEx, Motorola, Pizza Hut, Lowe’s and more. He also spent three years at Ammirati Puris Lintas where he led UPS, Goldman Sachs, and PwC. Sebok began his career at Grey Advertising and holds a BA in English and American Literature from Brown University.
