Eve Ashwell joins The Assembly Rooms as editor/partner

LONDON -- 

Award-winning London edit house The Assembly Rooms has added Eve Ashwell as editor and partner in both Europe and the U.S. The signing adds another accomplished editor to the London roster and is a big step in the U.S. market, where Ashwell already has a growing reputation for her stateside work.

The company has been active in the American market since the beginning of this year, when it brought on U.S. EP Mary Knox, based in New York. Her representation company, Minerva Content, handles The Assembly Rooms nationally.

Ashwell is well known for both her comedy and narrative storytelling work, regularly teaming up with directors such as Daniel Kleinman and Pete Riski (Rattling Stick), Noam Murro (Biscuit), Charlie Crane (Knucklehead) and Mark Mulloy (Smuggler). During the past 12 years as an editor and partner at Cut + Run, she won a multitude of honors, including recognition from the AICE Awards, British Arrows, D&ADs and the Creative Circle.

In the U.S., Ashwell has worked with such agencies as Deutsch, Wieden + Kennedy and Energy BBDO. Recent projects includes ads and content for brands such as Coca Cola, Ikea, Zillow, Axe and McDonald’s, as well as an emotive new spot for Wrigley’s Extra Gum that has received over 70 million views online.

The Assembly Rooms is based in a Victorian townhouse in London’s Soho and was started in 2004 by editors/owners Hindson and Sam Rice-Edwards. It now has a roster of 10 editors.

Beast Atlanta adds editor Jason Painter

Beast has added editor Jason Painter to its Atlanta roster. Painter’s career spans 20 years in top markets throughout the U.S., working with top clients from Toyota to Nike, and earning awards from Cannes Lions, AICE Awards, and CLIO, along with an Emmy nomination. Painter was formerly handled by edit house Butcher. At Beast’s Atlanta studio, he will work with co-located outposts of Company 3 and Method Studios to service clients nationwide. He will also be available in the six other markets where Beast has offices (Santa Monica, NY, Austin, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco).

Billy Gabor, managing director of Deluxe Creative Services Atlanta, which encompasses local outposts of Beast, Company 3 and Method Studios, has known Painter for more than 15 years. “With Jason joining the Beast roster, the strength of Company 3 and Method under the same roof, plus the nationwide resources of Deluxe at our disposal, we’ve built an exceptional team here in Atlanta to support our clients in a way that no other local shop can,” said Gabor.

Michelle Towse joins Station Film as EP In NY

NEW YORK -- 

Bicoastal Station Film has hired production veteran Michelle Towse as executive producer. Prior to joining Station’s staff, Towse was a freelance line producer there working with directors including David Gray, Scott Corbett and Mark Gilbert, and a production cost consultant for Bird Bonnette Stauderman where she worked with large, multi-national brands.

“I’m excited to finally be a regular commuter to Station!” Towse said. “I’ve always enjoyed working with Steve [Orent, Station’s managing partner, and Caroline [Gibney, EP/partner], and love the culture of the company. I look forward to working closely with the Station directors and continuing to create memorable and innovative work in commercials and branded content.”

Among Towse’s additional experience are several years as head of production for Slavin Schaffer Films, and 14 years line producing for a long list of esteemed commercial directors including David Shane, Harold Einstein and Jeffrey Fleisig through production companies such as HSI, MJZ and hungry man.

“I have been lucky to work with Michelle on many jobs when she was a line producer, and couldn’t be happier having her on staff as part of the Station family,” Orent said. “She is a smart, experienced producer who can deal with any production – that means big and small-sized jobs, integrated campaigns, at home or offshore. Towse began her career in the dark room, working her way up to studio manager for Jamie Phillips, a high-end fashion photographer for clients such as Donna Karen, Liz Claiborne, Mikimoto and Macy’s, to note a few. As a freelance photo assistant, she garnered top-notch experience with esteemed rock photographer Danny Clinch, legendary Life Magazine photographer Gordon Parks, and advertising brand architect Peter Arnell. Towse worked for Annie Leibovitz, printing her photos from the Clinton Inauguration, coverage of Sarajevo and celebrity shoots, including Harrison Ford, Paul Michael Glaser and Evander Holyfield. And she also was a production coordinator on the documentary Unzipped, featuring Isaac Mizrahi.

Cossette adds creative duo Linda Dawe and Stéphane Gaulin

Cossette has added the creative duo of copywriter Linda Dawe and art director Stéphane Gaulin. Dawe and Gaulin have been collaborating for 13 years now. They first worked together at Marketel and then at Taxi, where they spent the past eight years. They produced notable campaigns for clients such as Bombardier, Les Producteurs laitiers du Canada, Air Canada, Microsoft and the SAQ and along the way have collected several nominations for Cannes Lions and many prizes at the Marketing Awards, New York Festival, London Festival, Applied Arts, and Quebec-based Créa Awards and Grafika Awards.

Gaulin was named Best Art Director at the New York Festival for an AIDS awareness campaign created for Quebec’s ministry of health and social services, and Best Art Director at the Créa Awards for an SAQ campaign. Dawe, for her part, serves on several juries, including those for the Créa Awards and Marketing Awards.

Aika Miyake named editor at Cutters Tokyo

TOKYO -- 

Cutters Tokyo has promoted assistant editor Aika Miyake to the position of editor. The announcement was made by film editor and Cutters Tokyo managing director Ryan McGuire and studio EP Timo Otsuki.

As an assistant editor supporting McGuire, Miyake had as one of her first major commercial projects the Nike Baseball "The Pledge" spot for Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo, which went on to win the Grand Prix and the Craft Award for Best Editing at Japan's 2013 ACC Awards. Over time, the relationships with W+K, Beacon Communications and other agencies and directors have grown exponentially in Japan, Shanghai and well beyond.

Last year, Miyake joined McGuire to co-edit W+K Tokyo's Facebook campaign – the brand's first major advertising campaign in Japan. More recent campaigns she has edited include work for Uniqlo, Nike and Pampers. The Pampers "Mom's First Birthday" film produced for Beacon Communications earned AdFest, AD STARS, New York Festivals and One Show honors, and at the Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity recently held in Singapore, brought home one Bronze Spike in the Direction category, and more Bronze Spikes in the Digital, Film Craft and Media categories.

Miyake’s latest work is another partnership with W+K Tokyo, the first-ever campaign in Japan for Booking.com.

W+K alum Achilles Li named group creative director at Translation

Translation has expanded its creative leadership roster with the hiring of Achilles Li. Working closely with chief creative officer John Norman, Li will serve as group creative director for the independent agency’s NBA and Champs Sports accounts. He brings years of experience in the world of international sports marketing to bear on behalf of the two athletic brands.

Prior to joining Translation, Li spent over three years as Executive Creative Director at Wieden + Kennedy Shanghai, touching nearly every one of the award-winning agency’s accounts as a team leader or lead creative. His time at W+K Shanghai spawned an assortment of celebrated creative work for a variety of media and markets—from the international appeal of Jeep Brand’s “Built Free” global campaign to the city-specific insights of Nike’s “Beijing City Attack,” which radically transformed Nike Basketball’s presence in the Chinese market. Li first signed on with the agency in 2006 as a creative, following a two-year tour of duty as sr. copywriter at Leo Burnett Hong Kong. Before that, he served as sr. copywriter at JWT Hong Kong.

His work has been recognized by competitions including the CLIOs, D&AD, and the Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity.

Colin McGreal named creative director at Reel FX

Digital studio Reel FX, Dallas/Santa Monica, has added Colin McGreal as creative director. McGreal is a versatile creative director and designer with over two decades of branded content experience working with such clients as Verizon, American Express, Ford, Samsung, Wendy’s, Goodyear, Toyota and Time Warner Cable.

McGreal most recently worked as creative director on Reel FX’s Hunger Games VR Experience for Lionsgate/Samsung, which launched during NY Comic-Con. His other Reel FX VR work includes the “You vs. Sharapova” Virtual Reality experience for American Express, which launched at the 2015 US Open, and the Pacific Rim Jaeger Pilot VR Experience for out of Legendary Pictures.

“As someone who has engaged with a diverse collection of studios, Reel FX has continuously grown more attractive as I’ve watched them aggressively embrace new platforms in the entertainment and commercial world,” notes McGreal. “It is this commitment to staying ahead of the curve that has drawn me to formalize our long-standing relationship.”

McGreal, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, cut his professional chops by toting cans of film for a film lab in Hell’s Kitchen on a midnight shift and not quitting after getting mugged his second night on the job. Tiring of the vampire shift, he moved to designing boards at R/GA, learning a whole new facet of the industry. After directing his first spots in Saigon, McGreal worked as creative director for studios such as Charlex, Shilo, Spontaneous, Suspect and HUGE, completing spots for agencies such as McCann-Erickson, Saatchi, Digitas, Publicis, JWT and BBDO.

Jason Cook joins Flavor as creative director

Creative production studio Flavor has brought Jason Cook aboard its Los Angeles staff as creative director.

An L.A. native, Cook is an award-winning creative director and graphic designer who has spent more than 10 years working for some of the top design companies in the advertising industry. For the past two years, he has been freelancing as a creative director/director for Arsenal FX, Rabbit Content, Stardust, Troika, We Are Royale and others. Prior to that, he spent three years as a creative director for the LA office of Superfad, contributing to campaigns for the likes of Coca-Cola, Pella Windows and Visa Olympics while directing spots for Fiat, THQ, and League of Legends on the Mac. Cook was also partner/creative director for NYLON for three years, and that followed more than seven years working as a freelancer after a stint as Brand New School’s very first intern. Cook earned his degree in graphic design from Art Center College of Design in 2001, and subsequently taught there as well.

According to Flavor EP Darren Jaffe, Cook’s extensive background in traditional and motion graphic design also includes work in narrative in the 3D realm, as well as live-action direction. “Jason always looks to solve the issues that are most appropriate for a project without being constrained by specific techniques,” said Jaffe. “He brings so much to the group in terms of leading teams, building client relationships and building brands.”

Tyler Witkin named sr. strategic planner at the community

Cross-cultural agency the community, part of SapientNitro, has appointed Tyler Witkin as a sr. strategic planner. In this newly created position, Witkin will be charged with integrating consumer insights and research into the agency’s brand stories. Based in Miami, she will report directly to Andrew Speyer, executive director of planning and strategy.

Before that, she was a strategic planner at FCB where she led development of strategy for Newell Rubbermaid brands including Sharpie, PaperMate and Expo, as well as Valspar Paint and Kmart.
